Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. As the saying here goes, a tired husky is a good husky. When the dog hits a year they are pretty much done growing and are safe to start jogging and doing some real hikes. Make sure you can keep up with his exercise requirements. They are not backyard dogs. Most of us dog between 3 and 5 miles of walking/running with our dogs a day to keep them sane.

Crate training can protect your dog and your house. Huskies, especially if they aren't getting enough exercise, can destroy your house and chew everything if unsupervised and loose in a very short time. Best to crate train until you know what personality you are dealing with. Some are fine home alone outside the crate, some are not. It takes a couple months of a dog being in a new environment to get a real feel for what they may do and be like.

Crate Training

Training in general though is needed and this thread can give you a good start on methods that work well for huskies.

If you have any specific questions we would love to help.

On a side note since your friend just found this dog yesterday and is already giving it away, please do your due diligence to locate the dog's original owner. Have him checked for a microchip, post him on FB pages for lost and found, put out a craigslist ad. As someone who has had their dog escape before and he was gone for multiple days, I would have been crushed if someone would have not returned him or tried to locate me and just gave him away. We had a dog from MO end up all the way in FL last week because someone who found him couldn't keep him, gave him to a friend and that friend took him all the way to FL before deciding he couldn't keep him either and then dropped him off at a shelter who then checked for a chip and found he had been taken a long way from home.

Welcome to the forum!

hi and sorry for the late response, i was so busy last week taking him to the vet and preparing the house for the new member of the family. As far as the previous owner is concerned, i can assure you that if the owner comes looking for him i would be more than happy to give him back. Unfortunately, nothing has showed up yet (we have posted on facebook and other sites and we have asked everyone in the neighborhood that he was found if someone knew where he was from. No success so far). On the other hand, i have some questions regarding his diet and nutrition. What would be the best kind of food for a husky?

A lot of people here go grain free with higher protein/fat amounts. I've used Tractor Supply 4 Health grain free, a Wegman's store brand called Nature, Crave that can be bought at Walmart and Taste of the Wild. Those tend to be mid-priced brands, others like Arcana or Merrick among the more higher priced brands. Victor is a good brand also. A convenient place to buy is Chewy.com or Dr. FosterandSmith.com - order online and it shows up at your door. Especially with autoship which usually adds a discount. Just be sure to buy enough to qualify for free shipping.

Go with a food that has meat or meat meal as the first 3 ingredients, NO CORN and, 28-35% protein. Find one with all of those and, you should be good for food assuming the dog doesn't have sensitivities to any one kind of meat that is in the food you find.
