| Hi everyone, so tomorrow my 8 week old husky will be alone home for the first time for two hours. He's gotten a lot better at sleeping in his crate without whining, but if we put him in the crate when he's not sleeping, he continuously barks and whines even with toys inside. I made a previous thread about crate training my puppy and lot of you told me not to worry when he's whining and to not give in, but I left him today for a few minutes today and he would just not stop barking, so I eventually let him out. Tomorrow will be his first time alone home and I plan to leave him inside his crate for the two hours I will be gone, but I'm just so worried that his continuous whining will cause him health/mental issues, whenever I hear him barking inside his crate for a few minutes I get so worried and let him out. I keep thinking that if I leave him in the crate while he's whining it will cause him behavioral issues and be seen like I'm neglecting him, especially for two hours! Please helppp! |

| Nope, as long as you continue to let him out when he cries you're setting yourself (and him) up to fail.
There's plenty of information here on how to introduce dogs and puppies to their crate. Most of it was echoed to you in your other thread. You are *WAY* over humanizing the pup.
If you have neighbors who might be bothered by the pup then you might have a problem. Most people understand that new pups can be noisy for a few days - and successfully crate training him shouldn't take more than a few days. His crate (and it *is* his den!) is the absolutely safest place for him to be when you have to leave the house .... _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| I think you should leave the house every day for an hour or two so pup can learn to be in the crate alone.
And... DO NOT rush to him the second you get home and make a big fuss over him. Put your things away, take off v your shoes, and in due time walk nonchalantly over, make him sit while you open the door, let him out when he's quiet. If he's yelping while you start to open the door, say no or eh it whatever is your no word stand up. Wait for quiet. Then open the door. If he starts yelping again, repeat no, stand up and wait for quiet. Reward ONLY quiet.
And reread Al said.
I wish you fortitude. You'll need it. Sounds like you have a determined little guy who's got you wrapped around his Dee claw.
Some day tell the story of my first puppy and how I babied her... |

| Well, if he didn't tear the crate down and didn't rouse the neighbors, I'd say you both did great!! _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |
