Squirt had to go get a shot for when she goes to the kennel in april. We did things a little differently to see if it helped with her crazyness and it went differently.

So in tje waiting area the vet came out said hi played with squirt a little and i could tell squirt was having an anxiety attack. When i brought her back to the room and i was the only one with her she started shaking. We decided not to muzzle her and it seemed to keep her from doing the cujo thing but she still screamed and peed on the tech and herself. And the second she was out of the exam room she was everyones best friend.

The shaking is new. She didnt try to attack the vet shes still screaming and peeing but she also didnt poop this time.

Im not sure if this was progress or a setback

Personally that sounds like progress to me. I have one we muzzle because she's bitten me and we're all more comfortable that way.

Shaking - she's nervous, that's tolerable. I'd say give her time to become comfortable.

Peeing - she's nervous, that's marginally tolerable (it *IS* better than getting pooped all over, no?)

To me, it sounds like you made progress with her. She doesn't feel the need to "go Cujo" on you all and that's always a plus.

When i trained horses a situation like this i usually would consider a draw yes progress was made with the biting but a new "symptom" with the shaking is a major setback. I realize that squirt is not a horse. My vet says its like a person having a panic attack but squirts case is the worst anyone in the office has ever seen. Im just not sure how i feel about what happened today and im wondering if im expecting too much. Stepping out of the picture emotionally its completely unacceptable because in the event something happens there is no way for the vet to feel for an issue or give her an iv or even really do a work up if something goes wrong. The going cujo is not good but its semi expected and acceptable. The screaming and peeing is a life or death fright response and not normal or even common and its way embarrassing

Em, the screaming, I'll agree that's a "I don't like this at all!" response. The peeing is just a natural outlet (sorry, I had to work for that!) of tension. There's nothing there to be embarrassed about. At one time, many years back, I dated a nurse, there were days she'd come home with tales of the days events and from anyone else, they would have been embarrassing - the thing was that in her environment it was normal (she was an ER nurse and people coming in "exposed" wasn't that uncommon) Her telling me about it was one of her ways of releasing her stress from the day. There are times to be embarrassed and then there are times where being embarrassed is out of place.

If squirt will allow herself to be handled without the muzzle, I'd say you learned something and *that* is a major plus. I agree that it raises concerns because she has the potential of biting someone, but if she's more comfortable and still controllable without it, I'd try. Sasha has bit me and nipped at a couple of the vet techs - but that was all in the past - like 5 years past. We still have occasion where she tells me "that's mine!" but I've also been able to play "exchange" with her without a problem. I don't have a problem with the vet's people still wanting a muzzle even though more and more they're not using one ( their choice, if they get bit, there were warned! ) She screamed bloody murder when they took her temperature but never even looked like she was going to bite (( mouthy female! ))
It's really a matter of what you and the vet techs(?) feel comfortable with.

One of the things i really like at my vet is shes also certified canine behaviorist and yeah i agree the not biting anyone was good and i dont want to say biting the vet is acceptable but when animals urinate and defecate out of fear it means they think they are going to die. My vet suggested that i randomly bring her into the office so she can have good association with the office but the office is 50 miles away so it's not really feasible her next visit is in may when her shots are due and since they have to do xrays and a dental she will be sedated
