I'd like both that way mom can have her little girl to take shopping and do girlie stuff with and dad can have his little boy to do sports and boy stuff with. Who knows what life has in store for us...I'd be happy with either so long as they are healthy!

....still got my fingers crossed for a boy though.... Wink

Many thanks! Will definitely make this an ongoing thread with updates as we progress. Less than 3 weeks to go for my first sonogram! Yes, I'm already counting down the days!

Just realized this morning...no alcohol for 9 months! Sad

It's still early yet but symptoms have been minimal so far...minor cramping, sore bb's, and a dull backache that has remained almost constant for the past 3 weeks. I hope you mothers don't mind if I look to you for advice and support throughout this pregnancy...I am totally out of my element here.

Just a quick update, my bloodwork results are in and overall look very good. Confirmed my blood type and tested negative for all diseases. My blood count is good and showed antibodies for measles and rubella. Only thing off was my Vitamin D levels which she said were low. My Vit D level is at 23.8 and it should be over 32.0, so they want me to start taking a 2000 unit Vit D supplement twice a day throughout the pregnancy. They will recheck my Vit D level in the second trimester. I'll pick up a hard copy of my bloodwork results at my next appt which is 2 weeks from tomorrow.

For those that had normal, low risk pregnancies how many ultrasounds did you have done? The nurse told me they normally only do two. I'd have my first u/s at my next appt at 8 weeks and then my second u/s during the second trimester around 18 to 22 weeks. I kinda would have thought they'd do more than two ultrasounds throughout the entire pregnancy?! confused

I haven't had a pregnancy in 10.5 years, but "back in my day" we only had two ultrasounds. Once they are able to see the growing baby at 8 weeks or so and confirm HE has no hidden brothers in there and that HIS placenta is growing well and that his heart is beating, I don't think they need to check anything again until 20ish weeks. At that time you will be AMAZED at what they can see. They will check the spine and the 4 chambers of the heart and the liver and the kidneys and all the fingers and toes and the face and the PENIS (*wink*wink*). If the docs believe there is a concern in the development of any of these things, they will conduct more tests which often include more ultrasounds. As they get bigger and more scrunched up in there, the docs can actually see problems less easily. Evan had one more after 20 weeks (can't remember when) and he was just all smushed up in there!

The new 3-D technology is CRAZY!! You will know what HE looks like before HE'S even born!!

Thanks for the responses. I did some searching on the pg forum today and it does sound like 2 u/s for a low risk pregnancy are normal...bummer. I might consider having a private scan...will depend on how much they cost, I priced a local private u/s place and they do a 2D u/s for $75 which includes a DVD recording of the session, a CD with 5-10 still pics, and a black and white print that we would keep. Not sure what the going rate for private ultrasounds is but that doesn't sound too bad.

My first u/s will be at 8 weeks Heather, so I'm sure it will just be a little blob with a heartbeat on the scan. Neutral

The second u/s won't be until around 20 weeks when we find out the gender, that should make for a good picture but that leaves 12 weeks in between the two scans and I know the wait will be killing me. I'd really like to have a scan done at around 12 weeks...if the OB won't do it then I'll have to see if hubby would be willing to let me do the private scan...we'll see.

Just for fun I did 3 different online gender predictors. LOL Two of them predicted BOY and one predicted GIRL. Oh I hope it's a boy!

I was told by my primary doc that Vit D is the new thing to test for as they found more people have low levels than previously thought. Mine were low and I'm out in Fl sun all the time.

For a low risk pregnancy 2 u/s are normal. If your dr. has the equipment in office sometimes they may do more later on. I was a moderate risk pregnancy due to fibroids and a big baby, so I had about 5 u/s and had to go to a perineonatologist to get them. One u/s was because my OB was on vacation and I had to see someone in another office. He had all kinds of equipment in there so he did one for me at 37wks, but no pics to take home. But I was happy just to have it. Some of my friends got a 3d u/s privately and they were soooo cool. I wish I would have done that.

I can't wait to see what your having!! I swore I was having a girl. But no, it was a boy and now I wouldn't have it any other way. My little man just turned 7, but I remember my pregnancy, his birth, and infant/toddler years like it was yesterday. This is such an exciting time for you. Baby center.com is a great resource and will send you weekly emails about how the baby is growing this week and will send you emails until he is a preschooler about development and such.

I love babies! I work with them every day and still can't get enough Very Happy

My friend is planning a pregnancy and her doc just told her her Vit D is low too. Must be very common.

I had a high risk pregnancy so I had a u/s almost every doctor visit. I hope you luck out and not have morning sickness. I had it from month 1 to month 8 and do not wish it on anyone!

Do you have "Seize the Deal" days where you are from? We have them around here and they are always offering 3D sonograms at a really low price.
