Hey wolves are cool to observe and all the other neat adjectives that can be punted about. But its obvious you don't realize what they did to the elk population in the Bitterroot Mountain area of ID & MT. I'm sure it has been the same in most other areas they've been reintroduced.

Myself I wouldn't have the desire to go wolf hunting and yes I've seen the results of wolf vs. elk. Life isn't a dances with wolves movie.

Can you send me links to what they did to elk populations? They haven't seemed to hurt the elk populations in the tetons, cause they still have an "elk reduction program" there. The main problem with letting the states (who clearly hate wolves) control their populations is that there is no way to control how many they actually kill. I know WY would love to kill every wolf in their state and I bet they are going to do a lot of damage to the wolf populations when they're allowed to hunt.

Starting on page 4 wolves and elk, shows that elk populations are on the rise, but may be harder to hunt, because they are kept in the tree line as opposed to out in the open where they would be easy targets for wolves and hunters.

I'm still trying to figure out the end goal of reintroducing these things.

Me? Most likely in the pro-hunting camp. Any wolf that comes anywhere near me or my possessions will meet a .45 caliber end. I'm not a fan. But I'm also not the type to care about bears being euthanized because of interest in human activities.

Were supposed to take this tree hugger "data" as fact? Page 5 mentions that the elk live at the tree line, I totally agree with that line. The rest is B/S because they always have preferred the higher elevation to the valleys. Then again there seems to be a yearly occurrence that happens each winter its called SNOW and lots of it. Then the elk have to migrate (yes like birds) to the lower valley in hopes of survival and thats when the wolves have their buffet. I'm all for survival of the fittest but when it interferes with a families option to feed on venison instead of store bought beef I side with the family.

You want links? Well its quite clear you know what Google is you already found the PRO wolf data, I'm sure you'll succeed looking for the ANTI.

Elk are a herding species thats why they herd like cows. Males are Bulls and females are Cows.

Wow. And no I didn't google that. I asked someone on, yes, a pro wolf page. Guess I can't ask that of you.

While I am a republican I don't look at CNN and disregard whatever they say simply because theyre all democrats. And on the same side i dont think Fox is all "fair and balanced" either. As with any source of news or information anywhere it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. I think we all know that neither side of any argument tells the 100% unbiased truth.

I signed the petition Sara

CNN can pound sand. Oh, wait. Their ratings already show them doing just that.

Petitions seem to have the same impact as awareness anymore. I only see a feeling of guilt over the near extinction of the species. I do not share this same feeling and have no reverence for predatory animals in the areas I travel. From what my simple racist right wing mind can determine, the ecosystem adapted to the absence of wolves. I still don't see why we are reintroducing them, and given the right opportunity I would hunt them.

The reason that wolves are being reintroduced is that the whole ecosystem is healthier with predators in it. Studies have shown that fish habitat in Yellowstone improved after the wolves came back, because elk weren't wallowing in open meadow streams any more.

Wolves are in the eastern part of my state, Oregon, and migrating west. Elk, coyotes and cougar live in my neighborhood west of Portland. I'm not afraid of wolves. Griz, on the other hand, have given me many a sleepless night camping in northern Washington, Wyoming, Montana.

Just a few hundred years without a major predator doesn't mean everything has adapted to its absence. There were very few, I think only one in record, beaverin yellowston before the wolves were reintroduced. Now there are 30 or so. So yeah, the beaver didn't adapt to life without wolves. Also wolves help keep down coyote populations which in return reduces the amount of pronghorn calves being eaten by coyotes. Wolves help keep a balance in the ecosystem. Everything evolved with wolves present and the scales were tipped when wolves were removed from the area.

Also, I am compassionate about wolves and I can see why some people are compassionate against wolves, but I don't see why you have to say things like "CNN can pound sand" and "From what my simple racist right wing mind can determine." I posted the link for people who like wolves and don't want them to be hunted to sign. If you think they should be hunted, then don't sign. You don't have to go all crazy on everyone.

We have wolves everywhere here. I was driving out in the country, a couple miles out of town and I saw a freaking ginormous wolf on someone's lawn...I don't know, I wouldn't hunt them given opportunity, and don't think they should be hunted unless they're overpopulating, causing a threat, or causing another species to to deteriorate.

Signed it Sara.

My sarcastic comments are geared towards what the majority of forum surfers would stereotype my views as. I can't begin to care about online petitions for things I support, much less other things. I don't expect to sway anyone's view on the internet and find these topics amusing. Sorry for interjecting a different, albeit coarse viewpoint.

Going crazy on everyone is something I'm prone to. It happens.

(and letting Joe six-pack go hunt any old elk in Yellowstone might have prevented so many elk from wallowing in streams to the point of harm. But that wouldn't make for very good vacation slides now would it?)

I think this thread was just sign it or don't sign it.. I think we are sort of crossing from debating/opinions on this to just being disrespectful when there is no need for that. That is all. I'm outtie.

If that was how it worked, it wouldn't be a forum.

I don't think being a forum entails being disrespectful when you can easily rephrase to be less offensive when there is no need to be, but whatever floats your boat I guess. That's all I'm saying. Off to bed I go.

I guess if being in opposition means disrespect... If a person disagrees, to be respectful they must leave said subject alone or phrase things delicately? Let me start a feeding thread on most dog forums and see how far that goes.

There should be no need for rephrasing to accommodate feelings. Its the freakin internet! If you don't like it, respond or go to the next topic. You all wouldn't believe the things I keep myself from posting.

We can determine global warming from one century's data with certainty, but not wolf impact? Not a buyer.

WTF if that isn't over populating, or would you prefer to find your Husky's carcass half eaten in the front yard before realizing that you maybe have a over population problem.

Sign it or don't? Lame reasoning or do you assume there shouldn't be debating if you agree and I don't, be it about wolves or eating pizza hot or cold?

Never said you couldn't debate or express your opinion, I said you can say things in a way that they are not disrespecting a member on here that in no way deserved it. I'm not going to beat my head against a wall explaining that over and over again. Last reply I'm leaving because I don't want to be an ass to anyone on here.
