PostSubject: I think we have a teenager in the house...   Tue Nov 29, 2011 2:27 am

My sweet little girl is rapidly becoming a mouthy, bratty teenager. She still has her cuddly moments, but the big one now is bedtime. She usually curls up and sleeps with us on the couch while we're watching TV (right now I'm the only one awake in the house and everyone is split between 2 couches), and then when it's time to go to bed she gets mouthy. Like big time. I seem to remember having the same battles when I was 12-13 (I wanted to watch Star Trek, dammit), but last night was crazy. She can't even be bribed into her crate anymore. Once she's in there she's fine, but you get that "I hate you people" look and she glares until she falls back asleep. Aaron was frustrated but we were both laughing last night...she kept running between the 2 couches and curling up when we told her it was night night time. Aaron finally had to pick her up and carry her, and she yelled the whole way. We also can't do quick potty trips outside anymore without the leash. She likes to play "keep away" and "eat the cat turds" if we don't leash her unless it's a play time. Even then it's hard to get her in sometimes. We start Advanced training on Jan 7th, so hopefully that will snap her out of some of her bratty ways.

Have fun with Piper in a few months, Mindy Twisted Evil

Jas still has a bratty moment sometimes. Yesterday was a whole bratty day! I think sometimes she just wants to test me to see if I'm still gonna take a stand with her.

Keep a short leash on her for several days so she learns that refusal gets her nowhere. My back wouldn't keep up with picking up a Husky for long. Also you don't want to create a scenario of having to physically manhandle her to get her to do anything. I still bring my two out on a leash to potty at certain times even though we have a fenced yard. Keeps them focused on the "task" if you know what I mean. Also if you do have to travel makes it easier to reinforce going on a leash. Braiden has settled down well and he is almost two. Skyla was one in September and is still quite a handful. These dogs have taught me patience for sure. On a positive note, when you decide to have human babies. raising them will be a breeze lol.

Ugh I remember going through this with Mishka she was such a pain in the ass! I agree, keep that leash on her... Mishka also spent a lot of time in the crate for timeouts at that age.

I must confess... I used the "rehome" word at least three times yesterday! I hate the mouthiness. I get in his face and make up some crazy lecture which usually includes, "You'd better be glad you are so cute..." or "I hope you know my children behave better than you..." all of which to him sounds like Charlie Brown's teacher, I'm sure. But I always end the lecture by making him lie down in hopes of showing him I am the boss. To him I must sound like this, "Wa wa wa, wa wa, wa-wa-wa,... Down."

Oh well, it makes me feel better... LOL!

Haha!!! I feel sorry for you girl, but not really Wink Kody is in total teenage mode! He's so freaking mouthy some times! I'll be sitting down and he'll just come up to me, stand up with his legs on my lap, and go off bitching about something..lol. After a few minutes of that he earns his timeout!

I agree with Denise, they never totally grow out of it..lol.

Would anyone like a wonderful Siberian Husky puppy and a lazy fiance? A big part of the problem is that Ghost hasn't been walked in EIGHT DAYS. Yes, EIGHT DAYS. I can't do it. Trust me, I'd give anything to get out there and walk her. The last time she was walked was when a very good friend came over to do it.

This morning, I woke up so strage sounds. Aaron was in the shower, and Ghost took it upon herself to start shredding the carpet going into our bedroom. She has been picking at it some lately, but we punish her every time we catch her doing it. I guess boredom won out this morning. I need to confess this to the landlord and see what happens. Obviously I am going to pay for all of it. I'd make Aaron, but he hasn't worked in over 2 months so I'm supporting his ass too. My landlord is really cool, he's a Coast Guard pilot right around my age. I just hope he sees reason and doesn't evict Ghost. I will terminate the lease before I rehome her. But this HAS to stop and I don't know how to get Aaron to accept responsibility. He's out walking the dogs now, and since I'm feeling MUCH better this morning, I went ahead and did the week's worth of dishes that had piled up while I was sick. I have half a mind to be vacuuming when he gets back, just to make a point. Here's the damage:

Aevyn has hit this stage aswell, although for the most part he hasn't been -too- bad (knock on wood). He's taken to just staring at us when we ask him to do something (sit, paw, speak, etc).

Aside from that he tore up my brand-new party dress which I wasn't too impressed with, but I feel that might have also been from separation anxiety. Neutral

That's terrible about the carpet, but at least you're willing to pay for it. Moving into the place I am now the previous tenants had trashed the place (ALL the flooring had to be torn out and put in new) and left without giving the landlord anything. Hopefully since you're honest about it and willing to take care of it he wont ask you to get rid of her. If it isn't hurting him any cost wise, why would he anyway?

I really think he will be reasonable, but I've dealt with dishonest property managers before and it kind of scarred me. My landlord bought this house when he lived here for flight school and then hung onto it as rental property and manages it himself. They live in Mobile, so they are only an hour or so away. I own a house in Oklahoma that I manage myself as well, and I'd be pretty pissed off if this happened there and they didn't offer any fixes. I just don't want to give them any reason to evict us or the dog, and I'd like my deposits back too. I've never lost a deposit. God, I should have just bought when I moved down here...

uh oh. Personally I would hold off on calling him and replacing it until closer to when the lease is up if I thought there was a risk of her being evicted. If she is in this stage no sense in replacing it just yet until she calms down. I would replace it and offer to do so, but I would just wait. That's just me. Hopefully Aaron will kick up the walking again. Ghost obviously needs it.

oh no, naughty ghost. if it makes you feel better, when embry ripped up our carpet it was about 10x that size. Hope your landlord is cool with you just replacing it..

I haven't called them yet, and that's a good point Dee... I may wait on it and just cover the exposed nail board with something. One of my good friends here in town has a cabinet and countertop business, and he's going to refer me to a good carpet guy. And, I've managed to not strangle Aaron yet. They went on a VERY long walk right after this happened, and Caesar is coming over tomorrow morning to play with Ghost. I think he still doesn't fully get it though, because he was muttering stuff like "not like it's going to help" when I was bitching about walking her.

Bite your tongue lady!

Willow also started a nice hole in my carpet a few months ago. I plan on going to hardwood in a couple of years so I might as well leave it incase Piper decides to take up where she left off. I'm with Dee, you might as well make sure Ghost gets it out of her system.

I'm with Dee, don't fix it yet but maybe touch it up so she does not pull at it more. If you want you could tell him now incase he stops by for a visit. Why not make a bet with aaron? Put something up of value. And bet him that if for a week if he takes ghost out for 1-2hrs a day and she still destroys stuff he wins and if she behaves you win. Hang in there!

That's not a bad idea on the bet... Hmmm... I think I might run with that one.

I just talked to my mom, and she said the same thing on not fixing it yet. They only come by when something needs to be done, and half the time if it's something small we take care of it and then work it out with them on paying for parts and whatnot.

Caesar is coming over to play with Ghost in the morning, and then I'm going to see if our karate instructor is cool with her coming by to play with the after school kids. I'm supposed to start physical therapy this week too, so hopefully I'll be able to start walking her soon. I wonder when (if) they'll let me start running...

I should have added a but never completely to the it ends Very Happy.- Anubis still has his days too. When he starts with some of his bullshit after a long good period again it is as frustrating as the first teenage stage. What pisses me off the most is his picking up every shit that looks eatable. Once he accidently got a hard punch with the carabiner of the leash to his nose and although it was not intended I thought maybe he finally will get it now. NOTHING next time he did it again.
Although they grow out of the teenage stage, there will be little asshole days as long as they live.

Very true!

My boy is 6 yrs old and lately I haven't had the ability to walk him as much as I used to and with hubby out of town it's all up to me. So far today my sibe has had a good 10 minute full out run in the backyard first thing this morning, a 30 minute walk at 11:30 am, and another 15 minute run in the backyard at noon. After all that he came in the house and started doing zoomies, running and playing with his favorite stuffed dog toy, and is still bothering me for attention and I just don't have the ability to do more with him at the moment. So I've given him a bone which he's happily gnawing on as I type. We'll see how long this "quiet" lasts. Rolling Eyes
