| Hayden has been attending puppy kindergarden for 3 weeks now and this week I noticed him starting to cough. It's not a constant cough, but does happen several times a day. It's like he has a hairball, but nothing comes up. He's also got a bit of a runny nose and some crusties on the corner of his nostrils. His eyes have been a little boogery too and has been sleeping a lot! Does this sound like kennel cough?? I'm making him a vet appointment in the morning, I just wanted to see if anyone could give me some peace of mind tonight to hold me over until morning.

Yup sounds like a mild case. Usually they get over it themselves without any antibiotics. Kale had a runny nose and goopy eyes a couple moths ago, didn't take him to the vet, since he never developed a cough. I'm glad you have a vet appt He's gonna be just fine. Most dogs that I see come into the clinic are coughing so much that they make themselves throw up! In a few days he'll be back to normal

Do you think I should take him or just wait it out? I don't mind forking out the cash, but if I can save a few buck's that's always nice haha. He doesn't seem miserable by it ..... I just didn't want it to turn into anything serious.

Yea I'd take him just to be on the safe side, especially since he does have a mild cough.

It's your call. Depending on how he's doing usually kennel cough is nothing really serious. Elara got kennel cough when she was about 4 months old from the vaccine! I was so mad. I just let her get over it herself. I read later that you should only give a puppy half the dose or they will develop it, plus it's kind of a worthless vaccine cause it's so limited in the strains it can prevent.

So, we just got back from the vet and thankfully he didn't have kennel cough! The vet said he has a mild cold and she could treat him with antibiotics or just let it run it's course and give benadryl if it gets worse. I decided to just let it run it's course, since it's not bad at all and I don't want to give him medicine that would upset his tummy.
