| Cali got a clean negative test!!! Weldon is doing great today, I don't have the whole list of stuff he is put on since my sis in law has all the paperwork for him. He is on antibiotics alot. He got fluids last nite and then today. Last nite he had a fever of 105.5 and called the local vet this morning about everything and they said to recheck temp by noon and if not 103 or below to call back. Well he was 104.5 and called the vet. they requested to see him themselves. He got a complete check up again and more fluids and antibiotics plus a antivomit med. Weldon is on a bland diet with boiled chicken, rice, canned food (hill's gastro) all mixed up. He loves it. Fed him out of hands at first because he couldn't get his head up or stand this morning. Now at dinner he stood up great!! and ate it all. We are trying to give him petalyte also but not a big fan of that. We got a bowl movement and it was FIRM...i have been told to expect diarreha and haven't had it since saturday afternoon. The only think I don't like is he has had 2 negative parvo tests and they are treating for it...is this common? Let me know what you guys think. I might have left some info out and if you want more, let me know |

| Try different flavors of the Pedialyte, and seriously just go to Walgreen's and get their generic version. It's the exact same thing and something like half the price (and IMO tastes better, too).
I'm so glad to hear he's doing so much better tonight, my heart just sank when I saw earlier that it was Parvo. Glad that Cali is negative, and I wish Weldon a speedy recovery! _________________ |

| Well yeah, we have the cheap version...dunno brand.
thanks alot for your thoughts on both. I hope at least we have it right, since both tests are negative for parvo...being a newbee to parvo I am not understanding how they are so sure of it being parvo without having a positive test result.
the best part of Weldon is he is okay and happy when his "mom" takes care of him, but he gets crazy excited when "daddy" comes to see him...his tail wags so hard his whole body shakes side to side and he trots to see me...gotta love that!!! |

| Most vets treat for parvo symptoms even though the test is negative. There are countless times that a puppy comes in that we all know has parvo, but they test negative, but we treat them the same. The snap tests only test positive when they are in full blown vomiting and bloody diarrhea. Glad that he is doing better |

| Well another day and another GREAT day for Weldon. He got his last dose of fluids and got his meds (antiboitics) and he was a good trooper for the fluids, only yelped a little bit. But like normal he was okay since daddy was holding and petting him. At the vets office when I couldn't, he yelped the whole time, and in a tiny room his high pitch yelp is hard on my ears when he does it for a minute straight. He stools are 90% solid. He is eating rice, chicken, sensitive stomach can food, and a little bit of blue buffalo (sis in law feeds her dogs that). We are going to talk to the vet about what food to go on. we were told pure puppy food might be too rich for him. We were thinking Diamond Natural Large Breed puppy instead of the plain Diamond Puppy we got him b4 we knew how bad he was.
Thanks for all your help and support to getting Weldon back to normal |

| Well my sis and law thought she might just put him on the food her other dogs are on and that is Taste of the Wild Sierra Mountain.
I imagine he would do great on that....right? |

| I wouldn't stop him from drinking but I would limit how long you allow him to lap. Poor guy... sorry but my small rant will be... the people that do this to dogs should be shot! I've seen one dog that skinny before and I won't go into it. Feed him just above his recomended daily allowance. 4 small meals a day are better than in one go. definatly get some wormer like others have said. Make sure he has no ticks. Have you had him tested for heart worm? Poor baby I hope he gets well in your care. Some probiotic yougert might help too as he is malnourished I would consider giving him some it may help settle his tum. |

| He has been to the vet and tested for worms- PASSED. He is being fed rice, boiled chicken, lil puppy diamond natural large breed, cottage cheese, water/pedialite (we hide it on him) and topped off with pumpkin. He is eating well and doing okay with fluids, not a whole bunch of fluids but I think in my opinion he is doing okay on level. My sis in law is worried about him. He finally got out of isolation from "parvo" scare, so I think he will do better drinking when out with other dogs. |

| I am so glad he is doing better, poor baby must have felt terrible. Just a couple things I thought I'd mention -
I would probably feed him something other than Diamond or 4health (also diamond, just generic)... All of their products come from china and they have been involved in some nasty recalls over the last several years. I was feeding Diamond for the last year until I did more research, now I feed Victor dog food. The plant is about 100 miles from my house, they are family owned, and 99.7% of the things in their dog food is from the US - and all of their meat comes from a 200 mile radius from the plant. The price differs per store, but I pay about $33 per 40lbs. bag and less if I buy more than 3 at a time. It has several formulas, no large breed formula, but imagine the chicken all life stages formula would probably be fine. It has a 4 star rating on dog food advisor for its normal formulas, and a 5 star for its grain free (if you decide to go that route).
Also I use the safe-gaurd liquid goat dewormer for my dogs. It's totally safe and I get about 10-25 doses out of it for $17, and the one labeled for dogs is like $10 for one dose. 1ml to 5lbs. |
