Puppies can start eating raw as soon as they are weaned, so Myla can definitely start eating raw when you are comfortable feeding it. With young pups you'd typically start with food items that have softer bones such as chicken, quail, cornish hens, etc. No problem feeding other meats like lamb, beef, and pork but you might feed the boneless variety at young ages. Considering Myla's age I think slowly introducing her to a normal prey model diet would be fine, however maybe save heavier weight bearing bones for when she's several months older. Many people like to stick with the softer bones throughout puppyhood just to be safe and I think that's perfectly fine, if I had a puppy I'd probably do the same since I'm a worry wart. Smile

I started Hayden on raw at 10 weeks and have had great success with it! I started him on chicken and now he's on beef. I find that the smaller pet stores (not the big ones like petco or petsmart) carry a good selection of frozen raw food. Make sure you compare prices! One pet store I go to charges $14.99 for freeze-dried nibblets and another pet store I go to charges $7.99 for the exact same bag!

The pet store I go to carries two brands 1. Vital Essentials 2. Nature's Variety. They are both pretty comparable, but Nature's Variety is a little bit more expensive and offer's a little bit more of a selection. Vital Essentials is 100% raw and Nature's Variety does have a couple fillers in it, like veggies.

Vital Essentials offer in chicken, beef, & fish. I paid $19.99 for 6 lbs (12 count) bag of patties.
The chicken has : 11% Protein, 9.5% Fat, 0.6% Fiber, & 74% Moisture
The beef has 16% Protein, 10% Fat, 0.9% Fiber, & 70.3% Moisture
Haven't tried the fish yet.

*Vital Essentials also offers freeze-dried raw meats in patties & nibblets as well! I use the nibblet's as treat's for training*

Suggested Feeding:
6 lb. Pet = 1/4 patty per day
12 lb. Pet = 1/2 patty per day
25 lb. Pet = 1 patty per day
50 lb. Pet = 2 patties per day
100 lb. Pet = 4 patties per day
Growing puppies and pregnant dogs may require as much as double, fed daily, during early growth and high bio-performance requirement periods.

Instructions:
Keep frozen until ready to use.
Thaw in refrigerator, only the portion you intend to feed the next meal.
*I put a frozen patty in a glass airtight tupperware dish and let it thaw in the refrigerator. If I forget to do that, I place the container in sink of water or let partially thaw on the counter and pop it back in the refrigerator to finish thawing*
It usually takes about 8 hours to thaw completely in the refrigerator.

Nature's Variety (I don't have the packages in front of me for the nutrition) offer's different meat's such as :
Organic Chicken
Regular Chicken
Venison
Rabbit
Beef
Lamb

I also give raw marrow bones for him to enjoy as well.

When I first started the raw patties, I mixed his dry puppy kibble in with the raw meat and slowly added more meat and less kibble to prevent stomach irritation. A friend of mine who's dog is on all raw told me I could switch his food cold turkey and he would be fine, but I didn't want to take the risk and decided to slowly make a change vs making a dramatic change.

Oops, I didn't realize the OP wanted prepackaged raw brand suggestions. I tend to automatically assume people are asking about prey model raw. Embarassed There are lots of different brands of premade raw to choose from and the majority of them are pretty good. What might help is checking out what your local stores carry and comparing price and ingredients for what you can get. Keep in mind though that premade raw will get very expensive in the long run and as your puppy grows but it does make a nice stepping stone into the world of PMR.

Yes, raw meat from the supermarket is fine. Just be sure to look for unenhanced meat if they have it, something without salt added or with very little. If all they have is enhanced meat that's okay too, you can just rinse the meat before feeding. But keep in mind that supermarket meat can be expensive depending on where you shop and whether or not there's a sale.

We tried the Venison patties from Natures Variety as a last resort to fix Rodeos issues. They have worked, fabulously. They are SUPER expensive though (i'm used to feeding PMR via grocery meat... not premades.) The Venison is more expensive than the others and the Rabbit is most expensive. Currently i'm paying $28.99 for 12 (8 oz) patties. Rodeo is eating 2.5 patties a day.
