PostSubject: Question on running Koda   Wed Feb 01, 2012 9:55 pm

Okay so I don't know if its just me or not, but I lives in a small town and outside of town we have a gravel road with a bunch of lakes around. What I do is use a retractable leash and let Koda run beside the car. So far he does not seem to mind it, he will actually run faster when I am cheering him on. My question is since I work 60+ hours a week is it okay to run him like this or not, he runs right beside or in front on the car. Hopefully I don't get hated on too much

Ive done that with horses, but never a dog. I would be concerned about him running on the rocks AMD the pavement though. Think of how your feet would feel barefoot an rocks? Not to mention if a freak accident happened and you ran him over. If you have the time to run him beside the car, you have time to run with him yourself imo.

I'd keep him beside, but preferably behind the car. I wouldn't let him get in front of the car. Other than that, I have no problem with it. As long as he's not hurting his feet, and is enjoying himself, why not? This is often called "road-work" and is quite common.

Aaron, why don't you run with Koda?
It would be better for both of you.
If you are working that much, you'll feel better with exercise.
(Unless you are unloading 50 lb. sacks of cement all day.)

If you physically can't run, how about a springer or walky dog?
I think that daily exercise creates an incredible bond between us and our dogs.
If it's too hot for the dog, you know it because it's too hot for you.
If you need water, so does the dog.
If the wind is blowing ice pellets so hard you can't see, the dog can't see either.

Huskies are way stronger and more stoic than we are.
They will go, go, go until they hurt themselves.
If you are out there with Koda, you'll know it when he's in trouble.
