I just thought it would cool to make something for your self from the fur cause no matter were you go you have part of them no matter were you are.

I've thought about it but it's expensive. This is one of the websites I found:

http://vipfibers.com/

It's quite popular because if you look at the spin calendar, they're backlogged until June!

My moms parents bred Newfoundlands and I think she mentioned something about them doing this themselves. She said it was soft and nice but when it got wet it sure did smell like wet dog.

I've considered doing this too. I don't think I'd care if it smelled a little like dog, it would be a nice reminder of them, especially if something happened to them. I'd expect it to smell some when wet, just like wool doesn't smell lovely when wet either. I just don't know if I could justify the expense of it, lol. Maybe we should stuff a pillow with husky fur?

One of the owners here was going to stuff a dog bed with her huskies fur in hopes he wouldn't chew it up if she did.

Weird Question on Huskie Fur? Empty
PostSubject: Re: Weird Question on Huskie Fur?   Weird Question on Huskie Fur? EmptyTue Mar 26, 2013 12:54 am

It's not really that strange of a question. Scandinavian countries spun dog fur before sheep were ever introduced. Cheingora (dog fur yarn) is super soft (depending on which breed it comes from, our sled dogs make really soft yarn) and 80% warmer than wool because of the hollow structure.

Those places are expensive, find a local fiber club and I bet someone in it has done it and will do it for cheaper.

Properly washed it won't have a dog smell, even when wet, just like wool doesn't smell like sheep. Also, people allergic to dog won't react, again assuming its washed.

The process is quite simple, collect, wash, card (image two slicker brushes back and forth) to align the fibers, and then spin.

We're collecting Appas fur this coat blow so my wife can spin it. We spun some up by hand (not with a wheel, but twisting with our fingers) as a little tester awhile ago. http://instagram.com/p/S9aJbivXl2/

This is so cool and awesome!

I wanted to do this too but I thought I was the only one, LOL! Our puppy won't even blow his coat any time soon... but when he does... Twisted Evil

I want to make this out of his fur (since it, too, is white): https://spirithoods.com/adults/womens/huskyplaid/916/
