Eddy told me to meet him here at or around 10:30am on sat...... Ken and I were there, waiting and waiting then we said around 11:16 lets gear up and go i guess. So we did, we had to be back at the car by 3pm to make it home for a college hockey game!
Wind was fierce when we parked but in the trees it was nice and we had to remove layers. the trial was busy with X-skis and other snowshoe people and dogs, for the most part everyone was friendly and the dogs behaved.
Stats:
i know my miles are always off by 1 mile so i would say round trip was about 7.8 miles in 2 hours and 45 min. max elevation was 9,798 ft start elevation was 9,149ft but it was up and down so it says we gained 2,805ft in elevation. i trust eddys readings more from the tablet but like i said, we were on our own this round.

HA! Me and doggies were ready at 9:15. Then everything kept piling on top of previous things. Started when I told my mom that you needed an earlier start. Told her at 3:00pm on Friday, so she couldn't go get Matt some shoes because she works nights. Then when REI opened it took her 30 minutes to get shoes and get out. Meanwhile Matt had to turn around and go back home to get his BACKPACK! By 10:00 I was getting "message cannot be sent" errors trying to let you know to go on without us. Got gas, and then my mom had to get breakfast. Finally got moving out of Loveland and traffic was a steady 45MPH in a 65MPH zone. We were actually on track to hit the turn off the highway by 11:00.
That's when I turned at the wrong trailhead. A very narrow and steep ice track lined with cars made getting out an interesting affair. Using the ice to my advantage I spun the van 180 where it sat and drove out. I waited and waited and waited for my mom to follow in the truck (I think she hates the smell of all five dogs in the van, because she always drives her own vehicle when they're all going), and after about seven minutes I decided to go tell them we were not at the right trail. Walking down the road it looked like her and Matt were getting ready to hike. But upon getting to them, it was obvious the truck needed outside influence to move. Hey, we got to use our ice axes! After a rigorous 30 minute cardio session, we were actually on pavement again. One guy parking on the side of the road that no one was parking on caused the turn around at the end to be useless. But the biggest factor was my stupid mistake of taking the wrong turn. At something like 12:30 we were strapped into the snowshoes and discussing what beer to drink at the brewery on the way home. If the dogs weren't there, we would've gone straight to brewery mode.

Looks like a great time! I saw Sierra on Sunday, I was commenting to my wife how pretty Sierra is when I saw her.

Alrighty, I have a few shots from our little outing on Coney Flats Trail. The Galaxy Tab and BackCountry Navigator Pro logged 4.2 miles round trip and 578 vertical.

Google maps to trailhead.

This trail is busy. Lots of the Indian Peaks stuff seems to be very winter friendly for the front range crowd. While it's nice to have a track stable enough to take the Malamutes out on, the traffic slowed us down so much that we were nearing .75 miles an hour. That's pretty bad compared to what we've been doing. Constantly yielding to skiers and loose dogs was a nightmare. Getting this trail a bit earlier would probably be much better and gives you the opportunity to head beyond the Coney Flats Trail and on to the wind scoured NE shoulder of Mount Audubon.

Starting out. Lots of packed snow around the signs...

Jack...

Got a nice shot of the wind blowing snow over the lake and into my face...
