Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Deb, this is too funny! My husband has trying to get Kody to close his own door too Razz He puts himself in his crate a few minutes before he thinks we're leaving for work. He'll go in, lay down, and stare at us. I can call him to come out, but he looks at me like I'm crazy. It's so funny! Of course he knows he's getting a baby carrot before we leave, but even if we don't give to him he just lays there being totally content with his "home".

Thats awesome! I found it funny that cali would do that on her own when it was bed time, but not that i moved her crate into my room, she doesn't do it anymore.

Oh that is funny he trys to close the door himself..

I wish it was that easy with Blaze we have to bribe him to go in but first we have to take him out..

He only has to use the cage when are both gone and that is not very often.

I can't imagine this. Appa still runs away when he knows it's crate time. Once he realizes he's not getting away from it he walks in with his head hung low and depressed.

Thor does the same thing. When we put our shoes on he will go in his cage and if we do not move fast enough he will yell at us. He knows his cage is a good thing and when he goes in he gets a treat also.

Oh man, thats just so cool...
I read somewhere that AKC scores huskys low for intelligence (due to their single mindedness/stubborn and independence)..
For the few years we have had our boy, i have thought its such a crock..
I know ours is smart, and this is another example..
Now if he can just slide the bolt across.... Very Happy

Must add that nanook, loves his cage..goes in on his own accord, its his turf as it were..

Thanks you Smile
I think he is very smart and huskies in general. I think the big issue is their attention span it does not take long or much to distract them.

NOOO.... No bolt action...lol If he knew how to get it locked then he would get it unlocked. Then he will get out and eat something...lol He will probably figure it sooner or later.

I think he already trying to figure out how to roll down the car window. When ever I go to push the button he watches with his head tilt like "oh I see how you are doing that. It's pretty funny.

Niko does the same thing. Of course, we've had to move his crate outside because he was scooting it around the house (no tray in the bottom) and scratching up the floor, walls, and trim, so now we have to chase him around the yard to get him in the crate.

Aspen puts herself in her crate as well. The first time she did it, I put all three in the breezeway, where the crates are, but I left them loose in the room since i just wanted to do a quick clean up and when I went to go let them out, she was in her crate with the door shut! Then last night when it was time for bed, instead of going to my room she put herself in her crate and I couldn't get her out so I let her sleep there last night. She really likes her crate!
