I have seen several pics with dogs hiking with the backpacks. Since I'm finally able to get out and walk the trails with the dogs, I was wondering what the best one to get is.

This is what I need it to be able to do:
-hold clip on water bottles for the dog/me
-carry medicine and first aid things
-carry collapsable bowls
-other misc items as needed.

I carry my own backpack, but since I have to carry special items in my backpack, it gets too heavy with everyone else's stuff lol.

Any suggestions or advice would be helpful!

I will let the seasoned vets comment on why you should get one, but I can tell you Ruff Wear makes great products. We have the Palisades Pack, Top Rope Collar, and Knot-a-Leash, and all are top notch!

I would go with any pack from ruffwear and if u need a lower price then REI, have not heard of any other packs holding up so well.

We have the ruffwear pack, and it is great. Do not get the cheap outward hound pack from petsmart, it didn't hold up for a mile walk around the block with us before the zippers fell off the sides! It is definitely worth the extra money to get a quality pack.

I'd second ... third ... whatever number we're on the Ruffwear packs. After that, REI like Jen said.
