Hello,

My name is Jordan, nice to meet you. I have a question that I have done a tone of research on but still cannot come to a firm decision lol. I'm getting my Siberian Husky puppy this weekend and I want to switch him off the food the breeder is using. The breeder is using a brand called TLC, I would stick to it but the problem is its ordered through the internet and I much rather be able to acquire the food I need from a local pet store if needed asap. What brand would you ladies and gentlemen suggest for a first time Siberian owner? From the research I have gathered majority owners like these brands: Blue Wilderness, Orijen, Eagle Pack, Innova, Naturo and Solid Gold but I still am not sure.
I will be treating Thane <---puppy's name ^.^ as my own son so I will not settle for junk I can get at a grocery store for 10 bucks. plz Halp!

Hey Jordan, welcome aboard! We've got loads of threads on here about food, and it really comes down to personal preference, budget, and what your dog will tolerate. You may find that Thane can't tolerate grain, or chicken, or some other random ingredient so there may be some trial and error. A wonderful resource is www.dogfoodadvisor.com, and anything that has a 4 star rating or better is going to be a good food. We've got several members who feed Orijen, and we have had great luck with our dog on both Blue Wilderness and Taste of the Wild. Check out the distributer websites and see where you can get the foods locally as well, and keep in mind that a lot of places can give samples and/or coupons if you ask. Taste of the Wild gives samples if you request through their website. Best of luck, and congrats on your new pup Smile

ok, thx for the advice. I'll stick with the few brands I have in mind and test the waters and see what the results are.

Remember to wean him off the old puppy food little by little. A drastic total food change can leave him with very runny stool for a while. Ask the breeder if he can give you some of his puppy food so you can wean him off it properly. Hopefully he won't mind giving you enough. Good luck with the puppy and welcome aboard.

Of the brands you listed, I would suggest Orijen (what I feed my two huskies).
Dogfoodadvisor is a great resource for getting an idea about the ingredients to look for / avoid. There have been so many recalls lately; I would also google some of the brands you are looking at to learn about the company that makes the foods, too (FDA has a list of all recalls).

I've had quite a few Taste of the Wild customers recently switch to other brands due to the recent recalls (but also some who have not switched). It's good to know a bit about the company and their history to have confidence in the product.
