Hello beloved husky owners!
My name is Shaylynn, I am 17 years old, and I will be getting a Siberian Husky maybe in the summer of 2013! Yea!
I've done my research for about two years on huskies, and I'm on another forum called husky-owners.com
I have an amazing kitty named Tails, and he is 10 months old.
He is my everything, and I shall post some photos.
I'm always asking a lot of questions because I want to be prepaird, so sorry if your feed is posted with loads of questions from me.
I am very friendly and I love to meet new people!

Hi there! I have a cat who's a toilet bowl drinker too.. Some days i'm convinced she's more of a dog than the Huskies... Very Happy

We here in the crazy world of huskies call the hypered up running "zoomies"! So you have a cat that does "zoomies" and plays fetch better than most huskies!

Nice... Laughing

Welcome! It's wonderful that you are already studying this magnificent breed before you get one. You are MUCH smarter than I was 23 years ago when I brought home my first husky on an impulse!

I'm planning on a breeder, I want to start young, but I'm really worried because I'm planning on getting the puppy after I graduate high school, then I'll be on vacation, which will be a perfect time to get one, but then I'll start college in the fall, and I'm afraid that I won't be able to fit it's needs. I mean, I'm going to get up very early for a morning jog, play for a while, eat, etc, and then when I get back I'll do it even longer.
I just hate it because when I ask people if getting a dog in general is right for me, even though I have to go to college they always say "No, because you're gone."
It just really makes me mad because they expect me to stay home 24/7 to take care of a dog when I have to do stuff in my life too, like make money to pay for the bills, you know?

Awe zoomies is a very cute word to describe it! Razz
Yeah, my cat seems to never get tired, but it's hot now so he's been settling down lol. Razz
Thank you very much, I want the best for my husky.

My cat plays with anything that's well... playable!
He always gets by an object close to the edge, looks at me and puts his paw by it, I always look at him and tell him no, and then he knocks it down and expects me to pick it up. Razz
When will he ever learn? Rolling Eyes XD

Thank you very much!

Kale and I welcome you from California! Cool

Pups do take a lot of work, but with commitment and dedication, it is totally doable getting one while in college. I did; though I could bring him to class with me lol (vet tech).

(Two cats and a Dachshund here lol and the cats are the bosses Wink )

My husband and I got Koda 2 weeks after we graduated high school and I worked full time and went to college and was able to take care of my new puppy just fine. I took the first 2 weeks off of work to be there for his adjustment and then just fit him into my daily life. If you're dedicated it's definitely doable.

It can be done if you have the dedication/determination like Heather said.

Where do you plan on going to college and where will you be staying? Siberians are on a lot of rental/insurance ban lists so that would be something to think about as well (if you will be going away to college and have to rent).

I think when people say "you'll be gone" it's because they figure you'll be attending classes, you'll be working, you'll be hanging out with friends and going out on the weekends etc. When you get a puppy - many things are about the puppy and you would have to put off many social activities to properly care for that puppy.

All of that is very general though - not specific to you at all just to clarify. I know many, MANY irresponsible young puppy/dog owners but not so many responsible (obviously the latter) young puppy/dog owners but I also know just as many irresponsible ADULT puppy/dog owners.
