weight - Rio's loosing weight?! Empty
PostSubject: Rio's loosing weight?!   weight - Rio's loosing weight?! EmptySun Jun 10, 2012 6:30 pm

Ok, so I have been monitoring Rio's weight very closely, because she is tiny anyways. She has lost a total of 4 pounds over the last month and a half. I wouldn't normally be worried, but she only weighs about 25 to 28 anyways.

We have had her checked out, no parasites, no HWs, no infection, NOTHING. She is completely healthy.

She wont eat more than a cup of food, and I have been adding wet puppy food to it as well.

Her stools are normal, no diarrhea, no vomiting.

Any ideas as to why? or how I can put the weight back on, since she is a light eater. I already have her on puppy wet food, give her cheese, meat, high calorie snacks etc, to supplement.

There is some kind of meatball type thing that is high in fat that you can give dogs to help them gain weight, I cannot remember the name of it but am sure someone will!

Found it, they are called Satin Balls!

Satin Balls

  • 5 lbs raw hamburger (the cheapest kind)
  • 1/2 lg box Total Cereal
  • 1/2 lg box Oatmeal
  • 1/2 Jar wheat germ
  • 3/4 cup veg oil
  • 3/4 cup unsulfured molasses
  • 5 raw eggs AND shells
  • 5 envelopes unflavored gelatin
  • pinch of salt

Mix all ingredients together like you would a meatloaf. Divided into 5
quart freezer bags (roll into balls approximately the size of a tennis
ball) and freeze. Thaw as needed and feed raw.

**NOTE** This recipe is for dogs that are having trouble
gaining or maintaining weight ONLY. Watch your dog closely as he will
rapidly gain weight with these.

It could be the heat of summer causing her not to want to eat.. Blaze cuts back alot on how much he eats in the summer.

I'm going to try it again, but in the past she wouldn't eat them. Rolling Eyes

I thought that too, but Kya cuts back during the summer and doesn't drop weight the way Rio is. I just worry about her. Neutral

She isn't loosing weight anymore, but she isn't gaining either. She is ~25 pounds, so I'll take that. lol. She is a tiny girl, so I'm not worried about putting weight on her, just making sure she doesn't loose any again.
