2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. PostSubject: Running with Dogs   running - Running with Dogs EmptySun Jun 24, 2012 10:12 pm

I've been seeing a physical therapist for my chronic back problems.
He has been trying to change my gait, as I lean forward which exacerbates my back pain.
It's hard to change at my age and as long as I've been running.

I run with Bodhi on a leash.
Yesterday, I had an epiphany.
What if I ran with him attached to my middle via his skijor harness?
I made a couple modifications to the harness, swapping out the quick release for a carabiner, and replacing the shock corded line to his harness with some webbing.
Eureka! Now I can run upright. Or at least, remember to do so.
To think that it took the third husky for me to get it right.

Third time is the charm, right?

I've always wondered about this, running with a waist attatchment instead of a leash, I'm always so skeptical because rocky is just turning a year and I'm afraid he'll pull me too hard (he pulls really bad some of the time, but when it comes to running he gets too excited) and drag me or something (I tend to think of the worst happening in almost every situation at times :/ ) bodhi must be very obedient!

Obedient?
I think not!
He does know "on" and we are working on "line out."
I haven't tried "gee" and "haw."
But if he sees any wildlife, it's off to the races.
Actually, I think it's easier to control him with the waist belt.
With the belt, it's my mass against his, rather than the strength in my shoulder

I'm going to have my hubby read this idea. He is a runner but has only taken Sabaka a handful of times since he finds it difficult. He has friends and neighbors comment about his "running" with the dog. I think for a while, the dog pulls him and then toward the end, he is dragging the dog. Laughing

Is Bohdi well-trained to not cross in front of you? Or do you just allow him to run in front?

He runs in front and I try to direct him- away from that tree and that bush and that dog.
Then I use my hand to pull him where I want him to go.

lol! rocky must think i'm just a dumb human then, when he's with my dad he understand "stay back" and he slows down, he probably giggles in his head when he sees me with a leash :/

& thank you melissa for that! i'm 5'2" and i know you're petite so that makes me feel better lol i will have to try and get a waist tie system to try out with rocky (it's been my excuse really to NOT try running because of how hyper he is)

Yep, I'm tiny! 5'1, 112lbs lol! I'm not going to lie, the first few minutes are tough since they're on full pull mode, but then they calm down and it's a breeze. I still grab the waist leash if I need to bring them in closer to me or whatever reason.
