that says Will save all dogs...

So i'm at petsmart today picking up food for my ever growing pack....and while in the parking lot a man asks my husband if he would like a chihuahua puppy. My husband just kinda laughed it off and said we have plenty, thanks. The man proceeded to open the back of his SUV, where he had 8 puppies that are TINY. I asked how old they were and where the mother was, and was told the mother was stolen and they can't take care of them. They are about 4 weeks old. So...here I am with a tiny little puppy sitting on my lap and NO clue what to do with it. I have an appointment with the vet tomorrow for an overall health checkup, but in the mean time this little thing is scared and wont eat.
Any suggestions?

I bought some milk replacement, some canned food and a small bag of toy breed puppy kibble but i haven't been able to get it to eat or drink since its been here. I tried just the kibble, just the canned, and then the canned mixed with the milk and nothing. Her gums are getting pale, so i know she needs to drink, but what can i do other than squirt water down her throat?

squirt the milk down her throat, I had to do it with a few of Isis's puppies and bottle fed the rest for a month and a half, its a big, long, job but if the pup wont eat on its own then you do need to make it eat. Just use a syringe and do it little by little, if you put to much down their throat you can get it in their lungs and it can get pneumonia like that.

Also at that age the most important thing is to get the milk in her anyway possible so that you dont have to take her to the vet and have her tube fed, the milk is more important to get into her than water.

i had to tube feed my greyhound when she was a baby and it is not fun! the only reason i haven't done the syringe route is for fear of her getting too much and it getting in her lungs, but i think thats my only option right now.
She has obvious signs of dehydration and i don't want it to progress.

As for the other puppies, i am not sure. I am hoping someone was able to get them and take care of them. The husband absolutely refused more than one.
This brings my total up to 5 dogs, a 2 year old and one on the way haha its a zoo to say the least.

Well, I took her to the vet this morning and they kept her. They started her on an iv to get fluids in her and said she is very anemic and has a slight heart murmur due to being so dehydrated. They had a parvo suspicion but most of her test results came back clear thank goodness.I can pick her up at 4 as long as she responds well to the IV, otherwise it's not looking so good for her.
I was able to get fluids in her throughout the night and this morning but obviously it wasn't enough.
I'll keep you guys posted on her progress! I will most likely be calling the vet throughout the day checking on her.

Oh my gosh. My heart. I was just holding 3 week old chi pups the other night. I would have gone home with one too don't worry. You're doing a great thing and I hope she makes it through. Keep us posted!

And don't listen to anyone who gives you crap about having a chi with young children. My brother was a year old when I brought home my chi and they've never had a problem together. In fact, they're the best of friends. Sometimes. Other times Pooka just wants to be left alone so goes off and hides somewhere out of Arron's reach. (The chi is now just about 4 and Arron is just about 5)

My mom just brought it up to me. It completely went over my head because I was too in shock about the story. I don't think it's physically possible for any one chihuahua to have 8 puppies. Pooka's litter was 4 puppies (one of which died). And his breeder just had a new litter with 3 puppies (again, one died). Pooka's mom was big for a chi and the breeder was shocked that she had 4. Most litters expect about 2-4 pups, max.

I'm still very glad you're taking care of this girl and I hope the other puppies find the same good home since I don't trust this guy. He's not telling you something. I would put up a warning in the community and maybe contact the police because that's highly sketchy.

EDIT: Okay it is possible to have 8 puppies but it's very very unlikely. Usually it means a very young mother and the pups are going to have some developmental issues. Even if the mother was around, chances are she would not have physically had enough in her to care for all 8 pups.

Well, we weren't able to pick her up this afternoon. They said she is doing a little better but would like to keep her over night. So I'll get to bring her home in the morning. I feel so bad for her...she doesn't even have a name yet!

She is home! She seems like a complete different puppy. She is trying to run around and growling, it's kind of adorable lol
They gave us a small 1cc syringe and said if she doesn't willingly eat on her own I will need to get a mixture of Hills A/D critical and water in her every hour.
So far she seems eager to eat so here's hoping it stays that way! I will post pictures soon and then we can play the naming game! Lol

aww! I'm so glad she's doing better! Take lots of pictures! Once she grows up it'll be hard to believe she was ever so tiny!

What color(s) is she?

She is Black and Tan, and looks almost identical to my greyhound/collie mix Mia.

I do have some good news on the Husky that was found a few weeks ago! She will be heading to West Virginia this Thanksgiving to live with my sister and her family. Smile

I've only had Snow around the puppy once and although she is good with her, she acts like a mother hen and is really overbearing.
I don't have PitBull mixes. Just my three, well, four now, and then the rescue husky that my sister is going to adopt.
I need a bigger house. Lol
