I didn't know whether to post this here on under the Nutrition and Feeding thread, but I figured it's more training oriented.

During the training process, what do you use as high-valued treats vs regular training treats and in what instances do you use them?

I've read to use mega high-valued treats during the crate-training process and recall, medium(?) valued treats for potty training, and kibble/lower valued treats for training sit, down, etc.

What do you guys use and when do you use them?

I use chicken as a high value treat. I'm only using it with his food aggression training right now. All the other training I'm just using his kibble. He loves his kibble, lol.

I don't have any high value treats. But I use Zuke's Mini's for treats. They're small, about 3 calories each, and Nikko loves them.

For low value treats I use are Charlie Bear (http://charleebear.com/), they are 3 calories. For a medium treat I usually use pupcorn or these natural peanut butter treats from the petstore and for our high value since Cally loves them so much and doesn't get them as often we use the Blue Buffalo Widerness Duck Treats and the Smokehouse Chicken Breast Strips (or other)

Callie is so food motivated, anything works fine. For general commands, I used just the packet of training rewards I picked up at petsmart. Bacon flavor. I tried the salmon flavor once and realized that was a higher reward, so I used those for anything she wasn't catching onto, like leash training and pottying outside. Her recall is mostly driven on her attachment to me. I never had to use a reward other than lots of praise and attention and it's a pretty solid recall. The only time it doesn't work is at the dog park so we need to work on that. I use high rewards for correcting bad behavior. Counter surfing, jumping on me, all that kind of stuff. I ask her to sit instead of whatever she's trying to do and she usually gets some kind of "people food" for that. Peanut butter, bread, cheerios. Things along those lines. I would think bacon treats would be a higher reward than cheerios but for Callie I think the "forbidden fruit" thing plays a big part. She knows there's things she only rarely gets so getting that is a much bigger deal than the things she gets all the time.

I use freeze dried liver as high value, made by Primal raw.

Otherwise, mine really like all food. Especially cereal.

lol, cereal. I didn't think of that one!

I use: http://www.entirelypets.com/pet-botanics-training-rewards-chicken-20-oz.html

You can get a smaller pack at Petsmart for $3. It has 200+ treats in there (I actually dumped the bag and counted!). They're a 1/2 calorie each and Juneau loves them! It lasts a really long time too.

The bigger bag has 550 treats. That would last you a really long time. At least a month if you train every day.
