Time to Neuter? Empty
PostSubject: Time to Neuter?   Time to Neuter? EmptyFri Nov 02, 2012 5:32 pm

We have a 7 month old husky named Koopa. We are planning to get him neutered, but I was wondering when the best time is.. I want to get him fixed before he develops any bad habits, but I want to make sure he has enough time for his muscles to develop before he loses all that testosterone.

What do you guys think?

I've seen puppies from shelters come in that get neutered at 6-8 weeks and they grow to be 75-80 pound dogs. Your pup should be fine to neuter at 7 months.

There are so many opinions out there on when to neuter a pup. Bode has his appointment next week and he will be 6 months.

Lycus was also neutered at 5 1/2 months and also did well! It's all just personal preference of each owner and when they want to decide to get their dog neutered.

Ares was neutered at 7 months and he's great. He was just starting to get very dominant, and we booked him in ASAP and haven't had issues since.

Embry and Zoey were both neutered and spayed at 5 months though and they're both over 50lbs

We had Ezio neutered at 7 months. We were told by the vet to wait until at least 6. He has healed up really well and is his normal, silly self again! Razz

Steve was neutered at 2 years, but the breeder was hoping to show him and breed with him, but he only dropped one. I myself say 6 months time frame to do this. But as they say, there are many opinions into this topic. Each person must make an informed decision and you have started to path to that.

So I'm happy to see after going through this thread most people don't have problems with neutering before a year old. We wanted to wait until a year for Klaus however I'm really starting to think it's time to neuter! He is 8 months today.

He lifts his leg to everything now (not in the house). We brought him to my aunts during memorial day weekend and he marked their hot tub, side of the house, garbage can, and grill! Super embarrassed Time to Neuter? 1625187496 he marks constantly at the dog park as well... which is expected but he'll mark a bench people are literally sitting on!

He's also a crotch/butt dog. If he can get to it he will, and as disgusting as it is if another dog lets him, he'll just lick the area. Male or female.

He's friendly with all dogs but if there is a submissive dog he bullies them, stands on top of them, nips harder than he usually would... I wouldn't say aggressive but he definitely takes advantage.

Oh the humping... all dogs, us, blankets, toys, etc. No matter how many times we correct him he will be back at it the next chance he gets.

SO are these typical behaviors anyone has seen leading up to your neuter? If so, were they easier to correct after the neuter? Also, what are typical price ranges you found ? Just so I know if our pricing will be comparable.
