PostSubject: Alternative to Pill Pockets : PIll Buddy Naturals!   Alternative to Pill Pockets : PIll Buddy Naturals! EmptyFri Nov 30, 2012 5:38 am

A lot of us are picky about what we feed our dogs and we've eliminated all treats and foods with ingredients sourced outside of North America due to the issues with foods and food ingredients sourced in China. I love supporting companies that have great, healthy products for my two.

I posted about Chili's liver enzymes - he's on antibiotics and Denamarin to support his liver. He's taking six and a half pills a day and it's pretty tough to trick him into taking them. The Denamarin is HUGE - almost as big as the Trifexis pill and only Pill Pockets were working. The ingredients don't look too bad on Pill Pockets but I hate to support huge pet food companies like Mars (who make Pedigree).

I popped into the local small pet store today to get more dog food and they had an alternative! Yay! Made in canada from locally sourced duck or chicken. A little sticky and individually packaged (a little annoying since you have to open up each one and it's sticky) - but the dogs went insane over them! I give Frosti small bits of one for each pill Chili gets so she doesn't feel left out (aka - claw my leg for treats). Laughing

Woo I might have to buy these! I have to use pill pockets with Cloud too even with just his monthly trifexus because he will NOT eat any type of pill. I tried peanut butter and bread and everything to stuff the pill in but he always ate around it, glad to know there's another alternative Very Happy

When I was giving my guy meds, I found that chicken hearts made for perfect pill pockets. I could stick about two pills in the valves and he'd have no issues eating them (ie they'd be gone before I blinked). They are pretty cheap too so if you're dog is raw fed or you don't mind handling them, also a good alternative Smile

Great idea! He actually caught onto these new pill buddies the second time we tried them...the amoxcillin made nauseous so he's suspicious of anything we give him now. Sad

I like the chicken heart idea that's awesome. I got pretty lucky with Frankie. I give him his pills in cheese. He liked it so much that everytime he hears a med bottle, like tylenol or something for myself, he comes running and sits so nicely waiting, lol.
Bruiser on the other hand would run and hide under the bed any time he suspected you were trying to give him something. Makes the monthly meds quite entertaining. He's getting better since he sees Frankie taking it so willingly. Plus I give them fish oils capsules every day and they both love it and take them straight so Bruiser is finally getting a little less weary. SOmetimes these darn dogs are too smart for our own good.

That's so funny, Dee! Mmm...cheese!

Chili was actually awesome at taking pills, but he just felt so bad from the meds that he figured out it was the meds causing it and is now suspicious. Nature's way of protecting animals? They stay away from stuff that makes them feel bad? I buried them in Blue Buffalo Wilderness wet food this morning, that worked. He's supposed to get them on an empty stomach but that's not happening...
