2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Hi all,

My fiancee and I picked up our new pup last Friday and could not be happier. The breeder sold us 1 bag of National Performance Plus. I've been doing much more food research the last few days and National is not very highly rated. She hasn't had issues (her stools were initially pretty soft, but adding yogurt seemed to do the trick). But I'm concerned about raising her with foods rated as National is. I'm very interested in Taste of the Wild, but still have a lot of food in the initial bag. My question is: should I finish the National bag since I've already paid for it or should I try to transition her as soon as possible to something like Taste of the Wild?

Thanks for all of your thoughts! and if you have other brand recommendations, I'm all ears!

its up to what you want to do, the way i feel is if a pup has soft stools all ready mine as well switch cold turkey to a new food and give it 2-3 weeks to see how she is adjusting. what i liked about TOTW when i feed it was i could switch the flavors with out mixing the bags with no tummy issues, my 2 do fine with cold turkey switches. if she was doing ok on the food and you just wanted to try a new brand of food i would blend the 2 together over a weeks time making the newer food the main blend by the end of the week.
i take it you have read all our food threads and have checked out http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/ ?

As Jenn said, it's a matter of personal preference. There's no harm in finishing out the bag of food the breeder sold you and switching once you run out. If you really don't want her on the food there's also no harm in switching sooner and giving away or donating the unused portion.

We could give lots of brand recommendations but it might be easier to just browse the "What are you feeding your husky?" sticky for what a lot of people are feeding.

Thanks for the response! I have been reading the sticky that you suggested and am feeling much more educated, just a little overwhelmed too Smile There seems like there are a lot of quality brands and each dog is unique, so it's a trial and error process. I'm leaning towards Blue Buffalo, Taste of the Wild or Acana or Nature's Variety. Will read up some more and compare prices. Thanks again!
