2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.

The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Train my husky to go potty in one spot Empty
PostSubject: Train my husky to go potty in one spot   Train my husky to go potty in one spot EmptyTue Jun 18, 2013 7:02 am

My husky is 2 Years old and she has been living with us for 6 months and she goes to the bathroom everywhere. Most recently she seems to want to go potty on the concrete (number ones and number twos) and this is quite a bit frustrating. Is there a way to train her to go potty in one spot of the backyard or maybe a section of the backyard?

Thanks in advance.

You should be able to correct it with enough supervision, like you would house breaking.

Just spend some time outside with your pup and when you see a squat start issue a quick verbal warning and redirect your pup to a correct location. However you can manage it, via recall or even physically moving them is fine as long as it isn't done negatively or by punishing.

You should also actively remove the scent from any area you don't want your pup eliminating with an enzyme cleaner, we use Nature's Miracle for accidents in our house. If they can smell it, weather it was them or some other dog, the chances are much higher they will use that spot again. So cleaning it well goes a long way.

To that end most pet shops have pheromone sticks that are scented like Urine. If you walk up to a counter and ask if they have Pee Posts most staff will know what you are talking about.

A Quick example can be found HERE

The idea is you stick them into the ground where you want your dog to eliminate and introduce it to your pup. There might be some investigation, but ideally the dog will mark the post with their own scent, and ideally will eliminate close to the post from there on.

I've personally never used one, so I couldn't say how well they work or how often you need to replace them, but I think we have some members around who have used them with some success.

Good Luck,
~Chris~
