Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Hello, my name is Dana. I have been lurking around quite some time since I brought home a husky puppy last month. He is my first Siberian Husky and an amazing dog. I can't wait to watch him grow up and learn. I joined the forums because of the wealth of knowledge and support I have seen in the various threads and hope Odin and I make many new friends (and maybe even set up a husky play-date or two).

Here is a picture of Odin the day I brought him home. He was born March 28.

(He's on my boyfriend's lap)

Hope to be here a lot! Smile

Welcome to the forum! He's such a cutie, can't wait to see more pictures. How far north are you? We hold husky meet ups in Ohio, if you're close to Cincinatti perhaps you can attend one of our meet ups! Smile

Thanks! Your dogs are all adorable too! I am in Florence which is probably about 15 minutes away from Cincinnati if traffic isn't awful. Odin would love to be able to play with other Sibes. He is extremely energetic when it comes to playing and it's hard to let him really go at it with a lot of the family's other dogs. I would love to get some pointers as far as training dog-dog interactions as well. He tends to get tunnel vision when he sees other dogs and I am trying to get him to learn the "on-by" command so he doesn't charge at them wanting to play.

Thank you! Smile I live in Dayton so Cincinatti's an hour drive for me, however I plan on making it August or September's meeting place since we have a lot of members that live in the southern region. Yuki would probably love to play with him, she loves having wrestle buddies. As for the tunnel vision, I don't have much advice. My advice would be to have someone help you out with their dog and to try walking the dogs toward each other with about 10ft between eachother, so when you pass eachother you'd have a 10ft or 15ft width. Every time he pulls or strains to get to the dog stop, make him sit, and take a couple steps back and try again. Try adding in the 'on by' command when he goes to approach the other dog, if he doesn't fall into line then turn around and get him to walk back in line with you. Eventually he will catch on with on by and ignore the dog as soon as you say the command. It may take 30 minutes or so but keep trying until he can walk by the other dog without reacting. Don't allow him to approach the other dog until he is completely calm about it.

That sounds like great advice! Are there regular meet ups in Cincinnati?

Thank you! I already have a billion pictures but they are on my camera... He's changed a lot since I've gotten him. It will be interesting to see what he looks like when he is fully grown. Smile

Welcome! Cute little pup you have there. Are you anywhere near Cave City, KY? I'll be up that way next month.

Also I set up a scrap book if anyone is interested in extra pictures. hehe. I don't have any up from my actual camera.... Just from my phone for now. I have been lazy about uploading stuff.
