Hello, my name is Dana. I have been lurking around quite some time since I brought home a husky puppy last month. He is my first Siberian Husky and an amazing dog. I can't wait to watch him grow up and learn. I joined the forums because of the wealth of knowledge and support I have seen in the various threads and hope Odin and I make many new friends (and maybe even set up a husky play-date or two). Here is a picture of Odin the day I brought him home. He was born March 28. (He's on my boyfriend's lap) Hope to be here a lot!

Welcome to the forum! He's such a cutie, can't wait to see more pictures. How far north are you? We hold husky meet ups in Ohio, if you're close to Cincinatti perhaps you can attend one of our meet ups!

Thanks! Your dogs are all adorable too! I am in Florence which is probably about 15 minutes away from Cincinnati if traffic isn't awful. Odin would love to be able to play with other Sibes. He is extremely energetic when it comes to playing and it's hard to let him really go at it with a lot of the family's other dogs. I would love to get some pointers as far as training dog-dog interactions as well. He tends to get tunnel vision when he sees other dogs and I am trying to get him to learn the "on-by" command so he doesn't charge at them wanting to play.

Thank you! I live in Dayton so Cincinatti's an hour drive for me, however I plan on making it August or September's meeting place since we have a lot of members that live in the southern region. Yuki would probably love to play with him, she loves having wrestle buddies. As for the tunnel vision, I don't have much advice. My advice would be to have someone help you out with their dog and to try walking the dogs toward each other with about 10ft between eachother, so when you pass eachother you'd have a 10ft or 15ft width. Every time he pulls or strains to get to the dog stop, make him sit, and take a couple steps back and try again. Try adding in the 'on by' command when he goes to approach the other dog, if he doesn't fall into line then turn around and get him to walk back in line with you. Eventually he will catch on with on by and ignore the dog as soon as you say the command. It may take 30 minutes or so but keep trying until he can walk by the other dog without reacting. Don't allow him to approach the other dog until he is completely calm about it. |

Thank you! I already have a billion pictures but they are on my camera... He's changed a lot since I've gotten him. It will be interesting to see what he looks like when he is fully grown.
