first off apologies for any errors in my typing... On my phone and I'm terrible with this on screen keyboard thing.

anyway, today was blue neuter day something that took a long time to make happen (had to book it two months in advance) also got chipping done and got to spend a few moments with the staff. They where all 100% infatuated with him, I was a nervous bag of stress the whole time (first time getting something like this done... I know its rather routine... But that doesn't make trusting strangers with your pet any easier.)

anyway enough babbling, I was curious as to what everyone else has experienced for recovery time with males in the past. I was told no activity for up to 3 to 4 days, then only a quarter of normal exercise then expect a full recovery Tim of 12 to 14 days before I can remove the cone of shame.

now that sounds all fine and dandy but in the meantime I was also wonder if there's any type of games or activities I could do with him to help control him endless amount of energy he'll have during his recovery?

thanks in advance for any responses, also if you have any storys with this to share I'd like to read them.

I took Watson in this morning to get Neutered as well I'm going to be picking him up from my vets in about 2 hours.

I'm not sure how it's going to go though because when I bring him home he'll be super excited to see Darwin. When we got Darwin neutered he honestly wore his cone for 2-3 days tops. He was absolutely pathetic in it and it took him several times to move through doorways. We just took the cone off and kept an eye on him. He was very good about not licking/biting himself at all. We resumed a lot of normal activities about 4 days after and he went about his daily life a-okay.

I'll definitely be playing it by ear with Watson so we'll see how it goes. Good luck with your post neuter pup!

When I took my male standard poodle in to get neutered, he was really out of it that first day. He was still really drugged out of his mind and he couldn't really walk without my help..he also had to pee like a racehorse LOL! That first day, all he did was sleep. After that, he was perfectly normal. He kind of regulated his own exercise and put himself to sleep though. Males have a MUCH better time of it than females.

Lucian was right back to nuts as soon as I picked him up! Had to wear the cone of shame too. I took it off him during the day when he was supervised, but put it back on at night. It was quite hard keeping him from being a nut ball for that long. I had to take him out on a leash to keep him from doing zoomies in the yard. You could try teaching some new tricks or commands to stimulate his brain, and tire him out. Maybe a puzzle toy to keep him occupied too.

Mine was running and jumping in the parking lot of the vets office when we picked him up. Try to keep him from running and jumping for 14 days...try. You can take him walking post neuter, no need to wait several days, just keep it to a walk, not a jog or run. I know it's hard to keep a dog still, mine certainly didn't cooperate but he was fine.

None of my dogs have ever needed a cone post spay or neuter. I always kept an eye on them and stopped them from touching site if they messed with it.

Picked Watson up. He's definitely still a bit out of it and is just sleeping it off right now. I had to help him walk to the car, he was still wobbling a bit. He's not wearing a cone, just keeping my eye on him. We'll go and walk in about 3-4 hours if he's feeling a bit more up to it later, but I honestly think he'll be back to all Watson behavior tomorrow.

Our puppy, Jack, just had his done a week ago! The moment we saw him he was jumping up out of excitement to see us. We tried really hard to keep him down seeing as he just had surgery, but he wanted nothing to do with that. He was out of it that evening, but back to his normal self the next day. I thought it was a slightly unreasonable request to keep him low activity considering he is a husky, but he did better than I anticipated. My only concern was that they didn't give him a cone!! I was obsessing all the time when he would lick that area and called the vet once or twice to make sure what I was seeing was "normal". I was the worried momma, that's for sure!!

Now, we did take him for a couple walks within the next couple days to just get some energy out, and I think he went for a bike ride on Saturday because he had so much built up energy that he needed to burn some. It doesn't appear it have made a difference in his healing.

The only problem that came out of this whole scenario was the fact that he started jumping up on us more and he started biting MORE than he was when teething! We are having to reteach him his "puppy rules" on how to behave which is kind of irritating because he was doing so well. Oh well...such is the life of a puppy owner!

When i picked him up he was walking very much like baby bambi, almost comical... my dad has decided to nick name him "radar". he was very dopey until about an hour ago now he's just whineing alot and uncomfortable. he still hasn't used the restroom yet which is odd since he useually feels the need to pee on everything in sight. for the most part he seems to be back to his old antics. i think i'll be keeping the cone on for the next couple of days and see how he is, although the vet recommened it stay on for atleast the next 5 to 7.

although the good news out of this whole thing is, i finally found a vet who i didn't hate from the very second i met her. which is good since he'll be due for some shots and a check up here in about 3 months or so.

quick question, apperently the vet used the "lazor" for the surgery as oppose to the standard incision. was wondering if anyone knows if their vets use this lazor thingy aswell or not? i've personally never heard of it, (sorry if i dont know the actually name for it, lazor thingy is about as technical as i can get about it.)

Our recent neuter recovery took a total of about 11 days. Link was jumping and being playful the day he came home but we kept him on minimal exercise for about 4 days...then his energy just accumulated too much and we started walking him for his and our sanity.

We used the cone for the whole 2 weeks but only when he was unsupervised in his crate either sleeping or while we were at work, otherwise he did not use it and for the most part left his incisions alone. We caught him twice in 2 weeks trying to give it some sort of attention, not necessarily biting at it or licking at it. He caught on very quickly that that was no okay and would go for it...and then look at us and immediately quit. We were thankful for that.

The incisions themselves never had any leakage or issues other than the abdominal incision flaring up and turning red for a few hours on day 2. Otherwise it was great and all in all the recovery was much easier than we anticipated.

The worst part of it all was really boredom, for all 3 of us.
