Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.

Hello everyone!

Gus is about 7.5mths old right now, and I'm still a little confused as to when a husky is expected to blow their coat. Seems like it's different for everyone haha. He is our first shedding dog, so this is all very new to us. Anyways, lately, Gus has been shedding A LOT! His hair isn't looking patchy like other people describe during a coat blow. But the hair around his bum can literally be plucked off, almost like cotton candy. Just take a small tuft in your fingers, pull gently, and it comes right off like cotton candy! Is this a coat blow? Do puppies lose their puppy coat? Is that what this could be?

He is still recovering from giardia, so we weren't sure if this had anything to do with it. But the amount of hair, and the way it's coming off is just concerning me. So i thought i'd seek some advice from some husky parents out there!

Sounds like a coat blow to me! It is kind of an odd time, but depending on when he was born and what climate you live in, coat blowing can vary. Bode was born in May 2012 and didn't start blowing coat until he was around a year old!

That IS just how the hair comes out tho when they do start blowing coat. Loose little tufts that pull right out and they start looking a little raggedy. You'll be getting brush-fulls in no time.

This is Mishka right now. You pat him and the hair just falls off. I wrangled him down the other day and brushed him good and it looked like I had 10lbs of fur.
