PostSubject: Help with a name for my new puppy!   Help with a name for my new puppy! EmptyMon May 12, 2014 5:26 pm

Hi everyone!

I am getting my new little girl on Friday and i'm having a really hard time trying to figure out a name for her. I really want something unique and Alaskan sounding.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Here is the most recent picture of her I got from the breeder. Also there are a few other wayyyy younger ones of her.

I have always found it easiest to get the dog and then name it. As you get to know her personality better names will start to jump out at you. When I got Kenzi we probably went through 3 or 4 names in two days before one really stuck as HER name. Once we had the one she learned it fast and it fit her so well we never stumbled over her name either. My last dog I chose a name before I got him (Schlayer) and when I picked him up it just didn't fit him at all so we changed it to Dagoney.

That's what I've been thinking too. I want to wait and see how her personality is! I have a few in mind but I feel like I can't put a name to her unless I see how she is in person. The only thing is I don't want to not be able to call her by name for the first couple days  silent

I'm just trying to get a feel for some unique names out there!

The shelter I got Kenzi from called her Chevelle. While telling my dad "hey, I got a red Chevelle" was grossly cute, it just didn't fit her personality at all. It's hard to not get excited and want everything in order right as the puppy arrives, but it will all come together. The first few days is going to be all about settling into her surroundings and getting past the shock of a strange place. She isn't going to notice what you call her until she has some time to settle. Congrats on the cutie.

How about Kenai (pronounced "Key-nigh"). Just an idea. As others have said, the name might change once you get to know her personality. My poor dog has so many goofy nicknames that we have made up along the way. Most of them don't make any sense and have nothing to do with her personality: Onions, Oofer, poopers, poop-a-doo... She responds best to Onions, lol

It took me a week and a half of owning Rigby to actually name him Rigby. I went through over a dozen names... at least it felt like it. Then we were driving down the road and the song Eleanor Rigby by the Beatles came on, and I was like- yup! That's it! My boyfriend thought I was naming him Eleanor :face palm: Oh vey. haha Smile Annika we named right when we got her. (pronounced on-nick-ka) Its german and means pretty faced.... and was also the name of one of my brothers high school girlfriends haha Smile Point being is, it'll come to you! Smile

I always have to name them after something that is important to me. Diz is named after Dizzy Gillespie, of course he has his nicknames too. The current one is fatty. I had considered: Pike (after Pike's peak in CO), Arrow (after a ski lift), Fraser (after a town I half grew up in in CO). Also, I was considering some other music themed names, but Dizzy just seemed to fit. Smile If you want something that sounds Alaskan, I'd recommend looking up Inuit words for things. You might be able to fine something really cool that way.

She is adorable! First thing that popped into my mind was that she reminds me of an oreo cookie. Very Happy

We'll be getting our puppy soon & we also can't agree on a name.

Why is it easier to find a name for someone else? Lol!
