Age difference matter too much? Empty
PostSubject: Age difference matter too much?   Age difference matter too much? EmptyMon Nov 03, 2014 1:05 am

Hello community! First post around.

I'm curious; little over a month ago I got a male, named Vicenzo (Derived from an italian word that means Fighter/I will win etc...) He is now 2 months and a couple of days old.

After the very long nights and all, I fell in love with my kid. So I decided I wanted to have another little bundle of love. Thats how Leyla came into the picture, she is a 4 month old female that I got last week.

My question is, seeing as she is older AND bigger than cenzo. I initially noticed some rough play and somewhat dominance from her part towards little cenzo. I wonder if when they grow older this will be an issue if they decide to procreate? or if my little boy will rise up and take the dominant male role?

Or if a problem itself that she is older than him?

Getting them both fixed when age appropriate will take care of the procreating issue. It will also make the male more manageable as far as marking and trying to hump her. Getting her fixed will help him to not go completely bonkers every time she goes into heat. As she is older she should be ready to be fixed before he really comes in and you have to worry about separating them. Females tend to naturally be the more dominant of the genders in many cases. Chances are if she is more dominant now she always will be because as young as he is she is going to mold him a little. I don't see there being an issue due only to her being older. It will be up to you to set boundaries for them both so that your smaller male doesn't get hurt during play, though rough play is normal. I also suggest training them separately so that your male has some chance to build his independence from your female. You want him to be comfortable and confident without her as well as with her.

Hello and welcome.

Huskies in general tend to play really rough with other huskies (They are surprisingly fine with other breeds) and girls at this age are the worst in my experience. We had exactly the same thing except the age. Our boy and girl was the same age but the girl was twice as big at  3 - 6 months, then the boy started to catch up. The girl was very dominant, always walking in front getting treats and eating first, sometimes almost abusing the boy. Now at 14 months she calmed down a lot and the boy is now really playful and the one starting the fights (plays). He's now much bigger than she is and he leads the way and is more "dominant". Its like a human girls, they grow up so much faster (mentally).

In short: size, weight and age does not matter. Rough play and some "abuse" is completely normal, let them sort the things out, don't intervene unless you see a blood.

Good luck Smile

I read this and I still can't get over that you had this puppy before he was even 4 weeks old..wow

I agree with TwisterII, get them fixed at an appropriate age.

I actually got him around 5 days after he had turned 4 weeks. Even my vet asked me why'd I get him so young.

Truth is, the breeder just said "here hes ready, take him home and pass the cash".

Seemed like a bad "breeder" that was more worried about getting paid. A good breeder will never let a pup go till they are 8 weeks old minimum alot don't sell till they are almost a year old even. Some simple questions and research could have avoided this. But, that aside you have two pup kids now. One puppy is tough, two is well, double trouble?

Rough play is expected. It is husky nature. Looking at the situation though, you may have done them a favor since they were procured too early, but they still have the ability to whelp with a fellow puppy on a regular basis.

Prevention of procreating is your obligation, getting them fixed would be the responsible thing to do.
Responsible breeders have to work up to many years of generations of healthy dogs, so then future pups have low risk to get the high risk problems huskies face at mid-old age i.e dysplasia, cataracts etcetera. Breeding dogs that you have no idea of lineages is reckless and unfair to the offspring.

Everything aside, welcome, we love pictures a lot. Fuzzy pups are awesome!
