PostSubject: Sick puppy.   Sick puppy. EmptyMon Mar 10, 2014 2:05 pm

So Simon has thrown up 5 times this morning. He threw up 4 times before I went to work and then my dad who is visiting told me he did it again after I left. I am going to call my vet on my lunch break and see what he suggest I should do.

Facts:
-He is just throwing up clear foamy yellowish liquid but nothing else.
-He is currently acting normal and my Dad is keeping me up to date on any changes.
-His food has not changed and he has not eaten anything different as far as I know.
-He would sometimes throw up in the morning and I told the vet and he said sometimes puppy will get upset tummies if they get hungry in the morning and have an empty tummy.

I am still worried, he is my little boy and I hate when he feels sick. Oh and for anyone that worries if I get a call that he is worse I will just take the rest of the day off and take him to the vet.

3 times and day plus I used his kibble as training treats through out the day. And he drank some water before I left for work and did his normally scream at me leaving. So normal behavior.

ha ha. what time are the daily feedings? it may be you just need to make the last one a little later. sometimes they do that because their tummies are empty for too long and they throw up bile. 5 times in one morning is a bit odd though.

Yeah I mean about one every two weeks he throws up in the morning but just once.

The last one is normally like 7pm. But he gets a snack of small hand full of kibble like 6 pieces to go to bed (get in his kennel) which last night we went to bed at like 11pm.

Also for more info he started throwing up at 5am.

hm. 11 pm to 5 am doesn't seem like too long to me. Hopefully some others will chime in that have pups with this issue.

Our husky did this too. Last meal used to be at 7pm. Then one day, he started throwing up repeatedly in the mornings. Yellow, foamy bile. Our vet said he is probably hungry and that his stomach has been empty for too long and there is a buildup of stomach acid. He suggested giving him Pepcid AC (famotidine i think it's called). If you google it, you can find the doggy dosage for it. But what fixed it for us was just feeding him another meal right before bedtime at around 11pm. We are trying to get him to gain weight right now though so we're not worried about overfeeding him (only if it causes soft stools).

Before i knew this though, he would continue to throw up UNTIL i fed him. Usually they say to not give food until the vomiting stops. But i THINK that is just the case with vomiting where they are vomiting solids/undigested food. Our shih tzu used to vomit in the morning too if he was too sleepy to wake up and eat his breakfast (he was quite old).

Did he start vomiting before or after his breakfast?

Did he stop after you fed him?

You could always call your vet to ask. That's what i did. I didn't even have to bring him in. He just told me to try some pepcid AC, which i did, and it helped. But then the next morning, he did it again. Then he suggested that his stomach might have been empty for too long, and i remembered that my itty bitty shih tzu used to do this from hunger Razz

I called the vet he said to keep any eye on him and give him pepto bismol if he throws up more. But as long as he is willing to eat and drink and energy levels are normal he should be just fine. But if he keeps throwing up that much tomorrow or the next day to bring him in.

Yah that's basically what our vet told us too. Hopefully it's just hunger though!

I wonder what triggered it. Gus just started doing it out of the blue one morning.

He was good this morning but I made sure to get breakfast into him quickly and he kept it down no problem.
