I'm planning on getting a husky in the coming months possible towards the end of the year. I was wondering if you guys have recommendations for a good breeder in california. (better if its nor cal) I've searched the web and found some breeders. I have also found tons of huskies on craigslist and it sketches me out.

I dont plan on showing the dog or breeding it just want a healthy husky.

If you have any recommendations that would be awesome!

Also how much should I be looking to pay? I've seen as low as $300 to 2,000 for "show dogs". Can the price of the dog misleading?

thanks guys!

When searching for a breeder I always suggest starting with those that are in good standing with the parent club. Any 'breeder' can advertise 'registered' puppies, but registered does not equate to health or quality of what they are producing.

As far as price- If they are charging too little (i.e. $300) you can bet that they aren't properly health testing their breeding stock....if they are charging too much, without any lineage/health testing/proving their dogs they are breeding for profit. The best thing you can do is ask breeders up front to see the OFA/CERF certificates, inspect contracts, and get to know the breeder before you commit to buy.

I really appreciate the quick response and the information. I need to remember to ask for health testing docs. I have seen a few posting saying they were giving their puppies away for free to a qualified home. Those people giving puppies away to a good home make me feel better about the dog as those people arent out for money.

Me, personally, I would never give my dogs away for free. Free things hold no value to those picking them up, and are often just as easily discarded. The people who put the work into their dogs, are breeding for the right reasons, I have no issue paying for their hard work and the end result- After all health testing, showing, and participating in performance sports with their dogs isn't free. Raising a litter isn't cheap either.
