Food to feed New Puppy Empty
PostSubject: Food to feed New Puppy   Food to feed New Puppy EmptyFri May 23, 2014 11:11 am

We are become first time dog owners of a 6 week old Husky next weekend.  My kids are soooo excited!

What kind of dog food should we be feeding him?

Also if anyone has any good suggestions on what to name him, I would appreciate the input.  Getting 5 people to agree on a name is impossible, lol.  Our puppy is a male, and we want a name that is different.

Nice to "meet" you all,
Sandra

First. 6 weeks is to you to bring him home. Should be after 8 weeks. The puppy learns a lot of important things from mother in that 2 week period. If you can push it back to 8 weeks i would suggest you try that.

As for food, what is he currently being feed?
A website a lot of us love on here is dogfoodadvisor. Anything in the 4-5 star range is usually what is aimed for. A lot of us all feed grain free kibble. And some even do a raw diet.

We had a hard time with Kodiak with his food. He had diarrhea real bad no matter what we fed him until we found Taste Of The Wild in the orange bag. Good Luck.

I would suggest continuing with whatever the breeder has him on and then slowly shift him to a high-quality food (if the food the breeder feeds is not adequate). I also agree that 6 weeks is too young. 8-9 weeks is good. My pup stayed with her litter until she was 12 weeks old. It makes a huge difference in the pups socialization and behavior.
