| It's been a long time since I've had a puppy, though Keno isn't a puppy puppy at around 2, but has that puppy mentality. He pesters Kenzi to no end and I was wondering for those that have added a dog a little later in its life how long you thought it took for the new dog to become less interested in the other dogs, assuming it was ever interested at all. The novelty of a buddy has worn off for Kenzi but she takes his pestering like only a mother could but I frequently get exasperated looks from her as if to ask, "Is it time to ween him yet?" On the plus side, he wears her completely out.
We have taken into consideration that he might be in a heat craze, though Kenzi hasn't gone in yet, IF she is going to it shouldn't be long now. How far in advance can a male dog tell if a female is going into heat. He paces a lot, even when he's dog tired from being exercised, he'll only lay down for a moment then he's up moving around the room again always coming back to her sniffing. If he goes outside with her he hounds her every step not letting her pee or poop in peace even. I understand this could also just be who he is as a dog, but figured it would be nice to have things to look for if it's unlikely to be part of his personality.
Note: He and Kenzi are not left alone, ever, and if I can't devote my full attention to their interactions one of them is put outside until someone can. We do not allow him to pester Kenzi often. Once she has shown to be done playing we correct and redirect him for going near her and not leaving her alone. She's only corrected him once, though fairly insistently, but it only worked for that evening. Next day he was right back at it. She lives behind the recliner when she really wants left alone and he isn't allowed to even look at her when she is back there. That is her place. We have also been giving her run of the yard by herself multiple times a day so she at least has the option to do her business in peace.
Sorry to write a book. Just want all info out there. Having a dog obsessed with another dog is a new one on me. My old male, who is still intact, never displayed this behavior with another dog, male, female, in heat, or not in heat. But then he may just be an odd duck. _________________ |

| I don't know how far in advanced a dog can tell, but if she is going into one and where he just got neutered it takes a while for all of the testosterone to leave their systems so that could be it with the bugging of her but soon he should stop if that is the case.
Probably not what you want to hear but between Nikolai and Siku I feel like it took a couple of months for them to really just calm down and coexist and not want to play all of the time, but he was also a real puppy so I think this little fluff ball running around just always caught Siku's attention.
It sounds like you are doing all of the right things, so I would continue that and hope that maybe after a month or so the excitement is gone, and they will play and then after that learn to relax around each other. |

| Yeah, also FYI, they can be fertile for a couple weeks after the neuter as well... |

| As rule of thumb growing up we waited 6 weeks after a neuter before even thinking about taking a relaxed eye around a female, but we always had much calmer males than this which has been a shock for me since I grew up raising Beagles, one of the most obnoxious dogs on the planet. This combined with the newness of his home just had me wondering.
I'm glad I'm at least handling things somewhat correctly. It has been a big chore dealing with his lack of training, obsession, and potty training all at once. He may actually be more ADHD than Kenzi. _________________ |
