Hello everyone!Razz  My name is Charlotte and I have a 6months old Husky, Enzo. This is our first post! And Unfortunately, a post about his stomach problem. I have been feeding him Blue Buffalo "Life Protection Formula - Puppy", which is the link below:

http://bluebuffalo.com/natural-dog-food/grain-free-blue-freedom/puppy-chicken-recipe/

And he doesn't finish it all unless I feed him with hands. (I'm assuming because of the hot weather or because of the food.) So I bought a new bag of food today, and it's the "Wilderness - chicken recipe for large breed puppy, also from BB), and after I mixed the wilderness kibble with the original BB, he started to poop like waterfall! I take him out every hour, and he poop watery every hour. I am very worried, and before that, his poop wasn't very solid already.

I wonder if I should change the kibble brand? I read some of the old post, and people are recommending Acana, orijen or wellness core?

I see scramble eggs and veggies would help with calming his stomach, anything else that I can do with my poor baby?  Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Most of my doggy poop issues are related to over-feeding (or indiscriminate use of rawhides - he loves them, guaranteed poop showers.) That being said - we had frequent pudding poop that changed to firm when I went grain-free (for what it's worth, Tractor Supply Turkey and Potato - I think the content of the food is more important than the name so read the ingredients and check out Dog Food advisor.com)

Try giving him smaller amounts (my son feeds the blue buffalo - pup acts like he's starving, gulps it down but when I feed too much - even by 1/4 cup, its squirt city - my bad. Son's pup's body weight, condition are excellent so I know he's getting enough food.)

Thank you for your reply Smile
I didn't feed him a lot of food, I only give him one cup per meal, and he doesn't even want to eat. Crying or Very sad I also only go with grain-free dry food.

It took forever to get my girl even semi hard stool. I feed taste of the wild, they have a puppy version. I'm with Amy though, it's not necessarily the name, but what's in it and what will work for you and your pup. Get can plain pumpkin, NOT the pie filling kind, sorry for yelling but its important, can help firm up also, try a tablespoon, table spoon and a half, once or twice a day. My girl thinks it's a treat. Some things to consider, food that works for your pup, may have an intolerance to an ingredient, go see your vet to make sure there's no parasite or something else wrong. wpskier222 had a great post, a week or so giving detailed instructions to calm tummy.

Welcome to the forum, I'm pretty new as well. Good luck, and keeps us posted on his progress, he's quite adorable.

Just checked for you, post is in thread under medical issues "Need help please! Constant issue for 3 months, stomach/diarrhea issues.

Thank you very much! I have read through it and I think it's very detailed and helpful. This morning, I fed Enzo the original Blue Buffalo "Life Protection Formula", and it seems like his stool is firmed a little, but still kinda soft and runny. I guess the Blue Buffalo Wilderness is too strong for his stomach. However, I just don't get why he couldn't eat by himself unless I feed him with my hand.  Embarassed

Awww, he loves you. It's an excellent bonding experience. Remember they are pack animals, they are more comfy doing things with someone than alone. As he gets older he'll eat on his own. Be grateful, a lot of us have to deal with food guarding and excessive mouthing, so you might have those 2 issues eliminated.  please keep us posted and show off some pics.

Yes he loves everyone who walks into the house, he even follows me everywhere when we are inside! When I was doing homework in the living room and need to grab something from the bedroom, he just followed me in even it's just a few second walk! lol! He would be stress out when I'm not around, this is another thing that I am concern about. Embarassed  I just post some new pictures for the 52 weeks! But I will also post some of his pictures on here!

This is the first week I got him, 8 weeks old!

Awwww,  he is precious. I guess I should have started a 52 weeks vs scrapbook, but my girl is older, although I have more pics prior to one years old compared to current pics.

A husky psychologist would have a blast with my girl, every husky issue imaginable has come up with her, that's how I got here to this forum, just to get some opinions, ideas and also to share what I've gone through with her. Separation anxiety is a tough one to handle, imho. She has severe separation anxiety. And yes she still follows me every room of my house, sound asleep I go from bedroom to kitchen up she goes and plops down beside me. The best way so far for me is give lots of reassurance, I rub her chest(it calms her) and give her a fat bone or something she can chew for a long duration. Keep us posted, there are so many knowledgeable people here who give great advice.

I played with him whenever I have time, and may I ask what kind of bone do you use? I try to find something good for Enzo, but I couldn't pick one because there are too many of them. Shocked

Also, he would forget about my existence whenever he sees other people passing by or especially other dogs, he got very excited! However, I did let him play with other husky for about an hour everyday. I didn't want him to scare other smaller dogs, but he loves to play with them and got too excited! pale

Thank you, her ears are something else, when they go flat I call her "yoda" ears. They do play differently than other dogs. Laughing

Depending on your economic situation, since you're a student I'm sure not a lot of money  Sad   I've been there I know, beef rib bones are a nice treat, as well as t-bones, i can give you specifics if you're not familiar with cuts and how I set it up for my girl. Your local meat department will have the best, pet stores tend to have "processed" bones, they always make her sick when I get them, so I avoid them. Another trick is if you crate when you're gone put a shirt or something that smells like you in there, of course nothing you don't care about being torn to shreds, just in case. My girl is a preener, she uses her front teeth and nibbles until there's a hole. If Enzo is around others, great for socializing, he may be fine.

Yes I feed her raw, never feed cooked bones, they will splinter. If you like beef short ribs, slice one off for him , they tend to have a little meat and fat and the bone is a little "softer" has lots of marrow in it, watch him to make sure he does ok with bones the first few times. I also give her cow ears, and antlers(found at pet stores) they are not as processed as pet store bones. Huskies love variety in everything, even food.

Yes, I am not sure if the local grocery store can slice them off for me, are these the beef short ribs you are talking about?

Those look like flanken cut short ribs (across the rib) - I think the English cut (longitudinal to the rib) might work better. If you have access to butcher that sells beef by the side, you might ask him for scrap bone - my Mennonite butcher bags up a lot of random beef bone (pig ones, too) and sells them $2 per bag. They have soft tissue still attached so make a nice gnawable snack. But then, Ami is a slow, thorough bone eater - gnaws leisurely rather than attack the bone.

Thank you for your detailed information, I will ask the butcher from the grocery store for the varieties of bones. If I live in a bigger city like Seattle, I think everything would be much easier!lol! Enzo is big chewer. Embarassed

I think I would try those bones, give him one and watch the magic just watch him because they do look a little small, you don't want him swallowing whole, being in a smaller town may be better, both Amy and I live in small towns, for me I just talked to the meat cutters and they were happy to help, I pay roughly the same as Amy, for $2 I can give Miya about 12 days worth of bones, the expense is getting something to freeze them individually, I get freezer ziploc baggies and put one bone in. She can't eat them fast enough before they go bad, so I freeze and sometimes she'll eat frozen, most of the time prefers them unthawed. Let us know if you gave him one. Also yes cow ear is like pig ear.

Lol, Ami, Gave Miya one 15 minutes ago, it's gone....the ones in your pic she can devour in about 5 minutes, if I have to resort to those I bag up 2 at a time instead of one, otherwise she'll want to eat my food. In a pinch they will work.

The bones I get are already frozen in 1 big plastic bag - I just throw it in the freezer. If they are stuck together, I put the blade of large screw driver at the junction of two bones and whack it with a hammer. On these hot days, I give him the bone frozen. I don't use marrow bones, much - they are good soup bones and sell for $4-5 a piece and, more importantly, lead to major squirts for Ami.

Good deal, well what did you do with the short ribs. I went meatless today since hubby out of town, now I wish I had ate some meat today. and you did make me hungry, would love to learn a new recipe, never made Korean.......

Hey I added some pics in Miya's scrapbook, have to use my husbands cell phone. I just want to make sure that they are decent, or if I should wait and get a proper camera before I post any more. Do you mind taking a look? Thanks

Haha, Amy, sorry but funny about how you word things with your boy, you truly engage the reader, I like that. I get charged same price, soup bones or not, and the whacking, never thought of doing that, even with the baggies I average 30 cents a bone, so not too expensive, but maybe I should whack them unload daily frustrations, lol

Have been busy these days taking care of two big babies! My neighbor's dog is a husky, alaska malamute and wolf mixed! He's a friend with Enzo. They have been busy playing with each other. afro

Anyway, I bought Enzo an antler and he loves it, well, so does Leo (neighbor's dog). Also, I bought a small bag of Taste of the wild the pacific one for puppy, then mix it in with the Blue Buffalo puppy food, the "life formula" one, and a scope of wet food and pumpkin. His stool is still soft, but not runny at all! I think it's firming up a little Smile This is his second time of the mix up by the way, so I think his tummy is getting better! Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
