2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.

Hey guys, so my mother in law has an 8-9 year old Scottish Terrier, he is SERIOUSLY obese, probably weighing in at over 45lbs, to the point where he is struggling to get around and constantly panting. Some of it obviously can be from age and joint issues, but I can't watch him like it anymore without trying to do something.
And here's Benny

I know quite a few people have put their Sibes on a diet and had a great outcome, what foods were you feeding?

Snickers isn't a sibe, but his weight loss diet worked great! I switched him on the advice of a vet that I worked for and was amazed. He was eating kibble, rotating back between TOTW and Premium Edge Weight Reduction, and that worked to keep him from gaining weight, but he was still hefty at ~80lbs. He stayed with my parents when I moved for school and they equate food with love, so of course he poofed back up. In February, they faxed me his notes after he had surgery and he weighed in at 88lbs. As soon as I got back home with him in April, we switched to Sojos and it's been awesome. He weighed in at the vet last week at 70.0lbs. I haven't done anything with him except change his diet and he's lost 18lbs since April - which really says something about an old dog with joint issues that limit any sort of extra exercise! Its also easier on me since I have to pick him up to get in and out of the car now  Very Happy

He gets Sojos, chia seeds, turmeric, fish oil, seameal (kelp), one of Dr. Harvey's blends (we switch between the senior and regular formula), glycoflex, and K9 Immunity (medicinal mushrooms) daily. If you're strictly going for weight loss, I would at least add in chia seeds (they gel in a few minutes after adding water), turmeric, and fish oil. I really can't say enough good things about Sojos though. We used both the complete beef and turkey formulas, as well as a little bit of the grain free premix to bulk up his food when he still acted like he was starving.

I used Evo Weight Management years ago when I needed to get 20 lbs off my boy without him feeling starved all the time. It really helped. But this was a long time ago (6 yrs?), before the P&G buyout when it was still a good food...and there have been changes made to the formula since I last used it.

The Sojo's brand is great to either use exclusively or to replace a portion of the normal kibble that is being feed. It has a lot of fruits and veggies, high in fiber but lower calories so it keeps them full without adding the normal calories you find in kibble.
