My husky, Snow, is just turned 3 this March. She has blue eyes and recently was having trouble keeping her left eye open with gunky stuff coming out of it. That went away and today I noticed a brown ring around that eye. I tried googling it but came up with nothing. I'm concerned because of the risk of eye blindness in huskies. Anyone have any ideas on what this could be? I can try getting a picture but it might be almost impossible, lol.

A picture would definitely help. Is it more defined like eye liner or is it more like a tear stain on the fur below and around the eye. If he's had a gunky matty eye it could be tear staining on the fur from any drainage. Did you take him to the vet to find out what had caused the eye to become to irritated? Was something in it or was it an infection? _________________

The ring is around the eye itself, her iris. We didn't take her to the vet because it completely cleared up and she was acting perfectly normal. I will do my best to get a picture of both eyes.

| I think I would take her to the vet.
Here is something I came up with in searching:
As the disease progresses, it may appear as crystals or gray-brown deposits deeper within the cornea. The haziness may cover the entire cornea or only the periphery of the cornea, leaving a clear area in the center of the eye. Having a round, horizontal oval or doughnut shape, the haziness generally appears in dogs’ eyes when they are between 5 and 27 months of age.

Robyn, Since I've interpreted what you've said to be "it comes and goes" then I would consider it abnormal. If it's a constant, it might be nothing more unusual than a slightly different natural colour. Since you said that it seemed to have appeared after an infection ... see your vet. I've seen that in other breeds (labs), but in that case the dark ring was around the iris of both eyes and was a constant (natural colouring?) Like you and Amy, I can find nothing specific on the web relating to this and would suggest that you first see your own vet and possibly ask for a consult with a canine ophthalmologist. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford .

We're taking her next week to the vet. I will update once we know something. Thank you for your input Let's hope it's nothing more than just.... well, nothing.

Robyn, please do ... I'm intrigued but hope it's nothing serious. A few giggles along the way ... that dark ring around the iris (between the iris and the sclera) is called the irilium ... if you're human and you have one that's pronounced - you're really a vampire! One site that might interest you - though it has nothing related to this condition - is DogHealth. Be advised that they have plenty of "pretty pictures" (and some not so pretty). (( mispelt something in there - irilium ??? )) _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford .

Any word on this? My husky seems to have the same thing on both eyes and has for quite some time with no changes. The vet never has said anything, but it concerns me.
