So cute and congrats on your new addition! What the story behind getting Duke? How are they getting along?

I think that Duke looks all, or almost all, Sibe truthfully. What makes you think he's wolf or part wolf?

Yea I'm with Val, he doesn't look at all like he has wolf in him. He is beautiful! Huskys do act differently than other breeds of dogs.

Caught this quick... I don't know what personality traits you think make him wolf-like, but just by looks alone, he doesn't look at all wolf to me. Wolves have longer and thinner snouts, not shorter and stubbier. He looks mostly husky to me for sure Smile

Agreed! His eyes look blue (might be the my computer) which would likely rule out any wolf.

I'm on the band wagon with the no wolf, nothing about him really resembles wolf to me. Looks to me like he may have some akita though.

Might be a sort of a thread hyjack but this is interesting for those that get asked about blue eyed animals. I did not know that blue eyes in breeds other than Siberians and Aussies are related to coat color and a genetic defect that can cause deafness.

just his mannerisms and the fact that he almost never carries his tail up its always down and behind him. The boys are getting along pretty well they have had some issues over food and what not but over all it's been a smooth transition. There were some dominance issues at first but I think they have that worked out too. Duke actually has one blue and one brown.

I know plenty of sibes and mals that keep their tail down.. and Koda has tons of "wolf like" mannerisms but he is 0% wolf..
All the dogs with wolf in them I have seen, that is noticable, are VERY tall, very lanky, their eye placement is a bit different, their snouts are a bit thinner and they are longer, they don't look like your regular ol' northern breed. I would say it's absolute Duke is just a husky, we had a lot of hybrids in AZ and he doesn't look even the slightest bit as "wolf like" as they did.

Welcome! Great lookin' pups! And I agree - no wolf there.

Regarding tail - is it straight down? Between his legs? The dog will carry their tail down when they're wary. Or just relaxed. Or sometimes submissive. You did mention there were some dominance issues. Who is being dominant?

Our boy dog carries his tail down sometimes.

"What about a lowered tail? Sometimes it just means that the dog is super relaxed. But a dog whose tail is clamped down, maybe even tucked between his back legs, is not having a good time. Sometimes you see a clamped tail in a fairly benign situation, for example on a dog who’s trying to avoid another dog’s attempts to sniff his butt or mount him. Not wolf-esque at all with the snout. Just a husky. I seriously don't see a single feature that makes me think of a hybrid. My boy is more wolfy looking than Duke IMO, lol, and he is pure husky.
I think a lot of huskies have "wolf like antics".. Koda's movements are very much like a wolf and how he "hunts" and does sneak attacks is very wolf like. Rogue is catching on to do the same thing.

A friend of mine works at Full Moon Farm Wolf Sanctuary.. he is some pics of her dogs to show you what a wolf dog looks like:

Gonna have to agree on no wolf content there! We had a hybrid who used to come to my old dog park... You knew right off the bat he was not all Husky and most certainly had wolf. They are generally taller and they have a different facial structure.

For what it's worth Odin rarely carries his tail high. And in the beginning he never did.

I'd also call Max a Shiba Inu or Akita mix.. can't really tell how big he is from the pictures but I don't see all Siberian in him. Mickey used to have a pal, Roxy who looks a lot like Max.

? lol He doesn't in the slightest look like he has any wolf in him. Wolves have slender more athletic builds and are way taller. His muzzle looks exactly like everyone elses huskys on here lol scratch And honestly Duke looks like a mix IMO. They are both beautiful though.

I put a few photos of the wolf dogs from Full Moon Farm to show him what a hybrid truly looks like. And like with the 3rd photo, hybrids are massive compared to your properly bred sibe. One of Koda's buddies in AZ had only a bit of Timberwolf in him and he was 75lbs at 7 months!

Going to agree also on the mix part for Max as well, I would think he has quite a bit of Akita in him to be honest (https://2img.net/h/i590.photobucket.com/albums/ss341/dubljay1/Akita.jpg)

Well that second photo looks mostly malamute to me but it doesn't show the body which is the dead giveaway usually.

I tried to see if they had a photo with that dog with the body but I don't see one, but I figured it was sort of a good photo that showed a dog with a smaller amount of wolf in the face.

max is small for a husky but the family that first owned him abused and neglected him. The people we got him from said when they got him he was about 20 pounds at a year and a half old and all skin and bones. Now he is about 55 pounds and stands maybe 20-24" at the shoulders.

At your description of his size, he's BIG for a husky, not small. He is on the high side of standard for a male which is 55lbs and 23" at the shoulders Wink
