Crate in new area, freaking out now Empty
PostSubject: Crate in new area, freaking out now   Crate in new area, freaking out now EmptySat May 23, 2015 5:54 pm

So last night I moved bandits crate to the basement instead of bed room. Wont fit in there with new bed. I left her in the crate as always but it is in the basement instead of bedroom. She didn't really sleep at all in the 2 hr footage I got. Just whined and whined and whined and cried and biting the crate trying to escape. She hasn't done this in a while as far as I know. Usually I set up the go pro 3 times a week when im at work and normally she just sleeps... Should I be worried? or maybe it is because she is now in a new place. She is sleeping in the bedroom still but now no crate? Maybe that is the problem. Only time she is in the crate now is when im not home so she panics??? it took her almost 55mins to finally sleep. Im gonna upload the video to youtube so you can see. Again she hasn't done a freak out in the crate for a while. Normally she would just stay away for about 5 mins then pass out. But this was the first time in the crate in the basement. Video is coming in a few hours

You moved her cheese lol! Seriously, this is a big change for puppy. Doggies aren't keen on change.

The other night, Wayne was paying bills and I was cooking, late, in the kitchen - normally by the time Ami comes inside, we are on the couch watching movies and Ami is in the adjacent sunroom on his "throne." The french doors are always open, he is about 10 ft away and can see us easily. Well, that night, he went on his thrown, stayed a minute, came back, paced around Wayne and was unsettled, so Wayne went into the sunroom, settled Ami on his chair, then went and sat down on the couch - Ami got up, came back in the kitchen and was a nudge with me. I brought him back to the chair, settled him, sat on the couch with Wayne, we looked at each other and started laughing. Ami finally went to sleep.

At bedtime. usually he sleeps in the laundry room with the kitchen door open - that night, I shut the door 'cause he had a lot of people food late and I was afraid of an accident since he neither peed or pooped when I took him out. I climbed in bed, turned otu the light and after 2 minutes, he is frantically scratching at the door to the hall...I, thinking he has to "go" jump into some sweats and my clogs, take him out...nothing...nothing...nothing. Come back in. this time I leave the door to the kitchen open and resign myself to maybe a "treat" in the morning. Things as they always are...Ami goes right to sleep as usual.

So - as I started with, Doggies are not big with changes. Any way you can get the crate back at least close to where it was? The basement may just be too isolating for her.

Probably can but she didn't do this when staying at a friend's 4 days. She was fine they said no whining, crying or anything. And she's in the crate when I'm at work but I'm guess it is still a different room and all. I can try to put it back in the bedroom and see what happens. Potentially I think I should keep it in the basement, fully finished and she's always down there with me when I'm home, for about a week and see if she settles in

Tony, how many times do we have to tell you ... Bandit wants to be with her pack and you're her pack.
The other thing that I mention from time to time is that you raise her as you want her to be.  You've raised her to be around you, with you when you're home and now you up and change things.  If you wanted to be able to have her crated overnight in some other part of the house, that's how you should have started training her.

And, as Amy saids, dog aren't big on this thing called "change" - you've not only changed things, you've removed her from you so she's going to be nervous because of the change and because you're no longer right there.

Why do we keep saying "consistency"????

ETA: I've watched quite a bit of your vid, and all in all she's behaving pretty well. I had to mute the sound since her whine was upsetting my dogs but it was obvious she was whining ... my one comment, if you'd have turned off the lights, she'd have probably curled up and gone to sleep. If your response to that is that you couldn't have seen her in the dark - what's worth more, your peace of mind or her comfort?

Okay I'll try turning off the lights. I know she wants to be with me I can tell. I just feel her in the basement for the summer is better. I'd have to blast the a.c. if I was to keep it cool in the bedroom. In the basement it barely had to be on

Today was much better. I think she is adjusting cause she only whimpered and howled a little bit and was sleeping in about 20mins and stayed that way till I got home. Light was off too. She'll be alright I guess. Tail hair is growing back too!

She seems like a sweet dog and she didn't act that badly. I tried crating Finley at night and it just wasn't going to work for him. He even knocked out one side of the crate. He usually starts out sleeping on the bedroom floor but many times he will move to the couch. In the beginning I was pretty afraid he would either hurt our cat or tear up the coach but we have never had a problem. Many times Ive seen him and RiFi the cat sleeping within a few feet of each other. Good luck with her but as others have said she just wants to be with her people.

She's back to normal now. Still sleeping in my bedroom and in the crate when I'm out. I guess she was just not used to the basement.
