hello everybody, my name is angel and i have a dilemma.
So a friend of mine had a litter from her dog, and now she is giving the puppies.
Her dog is siby but the father is not. So I would like your opinion which of the puppies best looks like a siberian as i adore the image of a grown husky.
Here are some photos. The brown one is the mother at three months old. The puppies are 4.5 weeks old

Do you know what the father is? Typically we do not advocate choosing a puppy based only on looks. There are many things you should factor in such as what personality best fits yours and your lifestyle and what pups are most healthy. When dealing with a reputable breeder health isn't typically a concern though since good breeders give 2 year health guarantees and health test their properly aged breeding dogs. In this case I am assuming that isn't happening since this is an oops litter, or I hope it's an oops litter, so you should factor health. Since you didn't ask about breeding ethics I will say this, at the age they are at right now it is hard to say structurally which will grow up to look more Sibe. Markings wise the darker blacks have more traditional Siberian markings to me. As they age though they will do a lot of changing.

Wow! I couldn't pick just one. Those eyes! I absolutely agree with Farley, spend some time with the pups and let fate take it's course. Since they are mix breed, I would imagine that their looks might change as they grow, but they all look great to me. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

Thank you for your answers and you are right to concern, but this is an oops litter from a not so close, friend of mine on facebook. I thought it was obvious as I mentioned the father wasn't a siby.
I would like to spend more time choosing a pup besides looks, but she must give the pups immediately because she doesn't have the place to keep them. Also she is not so close to me as I would have to spend a day and 200 euros or more to visit.

So under these circumstances I would like your advice.
Should I go for a pup? I know it is a life time commitment and I don't have a problem with that, but I would like the husky look. Do they look like they will have husky treats, in the early stage they are right now?
thanks in advance

hmmmm, welcome to the forum.....at this moment all the pups look like huskies but that isn't to say that they will look like one when they are fully mature. Do you have any idea at all as to what the dad is? Can you ask your friend. Structure is nearly impossible to determine as pups. As an example my girl was the smallest in her litter and today as an adult she is considerably larger, she is also from a mixed breed litter. Where as they all looked like huskies at that age, the rest of the litter as adults do still look like a husky, my girl has a completely different structure than the rest, my girl has a race line structure, where her litter mates have a more show line structure. looks isn't everything, it is personality that is much more important. With that said, if you can tell us what the dad is, it would be slightly easier to help, not completely, otherwise, if I had to choose by pic alone, the last picture you posted the pup on the left, bi-eyed, black and white with the flur de lis mask that has a much stronger looking mask. good luck, and if you do go and get one, we would love to see pics as he/she grows. Smile

PostSubject: Re: help me choose   help me choose EmptyTue Aug 23, 2016 1:21 pm

Okay, as everyone has said before - and I've said it myself - Al is an old curmudgeon.  So, with that out of the way ...

As Jenn has said, and by inference, others as well, picking a puppy for looks is *not* the way to go about it.  Remember, you're going to be living with this guy (or gal) for the next 12-15 years - you really want a pup that 'connects' to you.

For a first time dog owner Husky's can be a real hand full.  They're so smart they come across as untrainable and very independent,  They can be very independent; trainable depends entirely on how much effort you're willing to put into it.  Since you don't know who / what the 'father' is, you're going to be getting a 'pig in a poke' as far as eventual personality.  You may have a huge loving monster on your hands, you may have a 'sibe sized' terror - and genetics can play all too big a part on what the outcome will be.

While all these puppies are cute (well, almost all puppies are cute, aren't they?) I'd take a pass on these pups - you don't know enough about their heritage to know what their potential health problems, for example, might be.

Most of us are in the Americas, but we do have some European members who, I'm sure, can direct you to a good breeder, one who does all the right things to get the puppy *and you* off to the right start.

Thanks again for your detailed, helpful answers.
So I asked again my friend and the father is a mixed husky himself (he has a crown too), so I guess the girls (they are all females) will have many treats of a husky? What's your opinion?
I had a dog before, and I like training dogs of friends so that shouldn't be a problem for me.
Truth is I would like to connect to the pup first, but that would be difficult.
Anyway the breeders in europe many times presell the pups from the next litter so many times you don't choose the dog yourself, he just announces you what is left.
Truth is I was looking to adopt an older husky myself, as there are so many strays here.
But this appeared and who doesn't like a puppy Smile

I get what you are trying to get across here.  If I had to choose, based on just a picture, I would choose the little guy on the right.

help me choose Z10

That being said, I have had many dogs also, and Zhukov had been the most... oh, shall we say, challenging, of them all.  Strong willed, energetic, loving, bone headed, amusing, frustrating, and absolutely insane are just a few of the words I would use to describe him.

Of course, EVERYONE loves a puppy, and in the end, it is your choice and preference.  However, if you have the chance to rescue an older Husky, I would consider that.  That being said, I hope that you choose whatever is best for you and your new pal.  Either way, I wish you nothing but the best for you and hope that it all goes well.  Despite all the interesting times, despite the frustration and angst, having a Husky has opened a whole new chapter of my life. I don't regret getting Zhukov for one second. Good luck and let us know how it goes, whichever way you choose!

hello again my friends
Thanks for giving me your opinions, and helping me make mine.
So after some thought I have decided that I will not adopt one of these cuties, and I will wait till I find a puppy that I will be sure about, healthwise and that I will know both parents, so I can predict his/her treats.
I m looking for older beauties too, so I think soon I will find something good.
Wish me luck! Smile

She's a good looking dog. How's she react to you? The first and last pictures show an alert active dog, but the center two show one who might be a bit nervous. Have you had the opportunity to actually visit with her/

Since you said that you were really looking for an older dog when you found out about the puppies, she might have been who were were waiting for.

And I'm really intrigued now; that bottom picture might have been taken in the northern part of New York state ... but I think there's a little pond between my old home and you.

thanks for the answer aljones, i will visit her this week, haven't had the chance yet
from the description that i have had so far, she is a very friendly dog to people and other animals which was the first thing that mattered to me anyway
She seems to have a lot of energy since she was chained for most of the time the last months, that's why she might seem nervous
She is a bit small for an alaskan malamute but that's not so important
Also I noticed they probably cropped her tail or sth, who would do this  Mad

Malamutes are awesome dogs, I hope everything works out for you on your meet and you get to bring her home. She's beautiful. The tail thing is hard to say, for some reason I remember my Malamute having a kinda scrawny tail as a pup, but when he grew it was a tail that would put Kohdi's to shame, haha. In your second pic the tail doesn't look *that* bad. I'm outside though and I have a bit of glare on my screen. In any event, she's a beautiful dog. My Malamute wasn't one of the huge ones either, at his peak I don't think he ever passed 65 lbs. Good luck to you! I hope everything works out, as I said, Malamutes are just incredible dogs!

I just love the malemutes facemask! Kudoes to you for seeking out a wonderful rescue dog who needs some love! A striking pup. And at a year old is still a total baby. This breeds fills out in it's second year! And if it was mistreated and chained you will be surprised how fast a good life creates a beautiful dog! I like his wolfy look! And my husky's tail seemed to also be shabby...then just went crazy one day lol.
