| He looks so precious all wrapped up! There's something about little dogs that love to be all snuggled into blankets. He's definitely the little man of the house and he matches Leo too with the bandanas! Little ladybug, little joey lol |

| It makes me very happy to see a healthy 16-year-old Chihuahua. My Chihuahua, Romeo, is 11 years old. I've had him since I lived in Arizona in 2004 and he was my service dog for awhile. I have been very aware of his age lately, and I'm worried about losing him. I hope he lives to see 16 years too. |

| i worry about that too, we had a few scars with him when he just refused to eat and was very lethargic for a wail. then searched every were and tried different foods to see if he would start eating. at one point i just cried from being worried and frustrated that i might not have him around. eventually i did find a website for homemade food, thank goodness i did and it made a world of difference for him, now his happy and eating well again, loves to go walking as long as its not to cold lol.
i hope Romeo make it too. |

| At what age did you notice he was lethargic and refusing to eat? What homemade food did you go with? Romeo has a good appetite, but he refuses to eat at any time of day but in the evening. I have to protect his bowl because he's on a food that gives Suka loose stools, and being a puppy, Suka tries to steal food from the other dog bowls.
I like the current food Romeo is on because his coat improved in a huge way in a short period of time. The color brightened and he isn't shedding anywhere near as much as he used to. He was on Rachael Ray before and now he's on American Natural Premium Exhibitor's Choice (I was told the man who makes this food is the same man who makes Fromm, but I don't know how reliable my source is). He and Gypsy are the only dogs here that didn't get loose stools from it, so I'm keeping them on it, and I switched Jack and Suka to something else entirely. I'm currently researching other foods because I don't want to keep them on their current diet (mainly because of the loose stools issue when Jack or Suka decide to eat from their bowl but also because buying three types of dog food is annoying).
Ideally, I'd like to get the three adult dogs on the same food, so once their current stuff is gone, I'm going to switch them again. |

| he started to slow down and just not act like himself around 13 years old, then he was still eating but i had started to notice that he was just not in the mood to eat some times and he was only eating canned dog food at that time, at 14 years old he had lost a lot of weight, you could see his back bone i think he was about 6-7lbs. when he refused to eat his canned food, i started him on boiled chicken and rice.
i make my own home made food, i bought a recipe book that i found on k9instinct.com. i feed Leo Dr. Tim's Kinesis All Life Stages Formula Dry Dog Food and home made food, every once in a wail Joey will eat some of his dry food. its the only dry dog food he will eat. now he is his usual weight which is about 8.4lbs. if your willing to try here's a recipe: 3 large raw eggs with shell (i don't include the egg shells, i boil the eggs) 3 1/3 cup [1.6lbs] of turkey breast (i use chicken thighs[d-boned]) 1 cup of boiled potatoes (i use sweet potatoes) 1 cup of broccoli ½ cup of celery ½ cup of banana ½ cup of grated cheddar cheese(cottage cheese or plain yogurt) ½ cup of kale 2 tablespoons of olive oil 4000mg of omega fatty acids 400 IU Vitamin E Supplement
DIRECTIONS: 1. Drop the small chunks of turkey breast into boiling water and cook for 5 minutes. 2. Boil potatoes until tender. 3. Place the boiled potato with skin, broccoli, celery, bananas, cheddar cheese, raw kale, and olive oil into a food processor and pulse into small chunks. 4. Blend 2 of the egg shells into a powder with a food blender. 5. Combine boiled turkey, vegetable mix, crushed egg shells and raw eggs (or cooked). Add in omega fatty acid and vitamin E supplements (i usually leave out the vitamin E). Once the food cools to room temperature, add your supplement (i don't add supplement powders, just coconut oil and turmeric) of choice and mix thoroughly. 6. Feed, portion and freeze as you need.
he eats 1/3 cup of food 2x a day, with 1/4 tsp. of coconut oil and 1/16 tsp of turmeric once a day.

| How long does that recipe last you? I'm going to bookmark that site so I can look into it later when I have more time. |

| if i just give it to Joey only it last him for about 2 weeks, if they both eat it it last for a week lol. i usually make double and add in some of the chicken broth so that its not to dry. |

| It's a big big world out there for the little man! It's so funny how at that angle in the pic, it almost looks like Joey is the same height as the grass. Alnost! His stance is saying "no way José! I ain't going in there mama!" |

| Joey has the look of "this is the life" in the second pic. That treat made the trek through the grass jungle so much more worth it! |
