| This morning Mylo threw up some pieces of corn on the cob. Then he threw up two more times but just fluid. His tummy started to do loud growling sounds. Took him to the vet as soon as they opened and the vet strongly suggested doing an X-ray for possible obstructions and maybe surgery. CRAP

| Well, David, why did you let him have corn on the cob? Sorry Dave, I couldn't resist that since we all know that they can find and eat some of the oddest things in the really oddest places.
A vet on a Saturday is not a nice experience, it's always a concern and always unbearably expensive ... I really do hope they can get it cleared without surgery - Mylo doesn't need to get himself cut on again! (and I bet you pocket book doesn't need the expense).
Let us know what happens, eh? You and Mylo are some of my favourite people here! _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Of corse we did not give him corn on the cob. He must have found it or fetched it somewhere without us knowing. He started having some diarrhea three days ago. I remember he woke me up three times to go out and poop. And our regular vet is open on Saturdays from 8am-2pm but do not perform surgeries on Saturdays. They close on Sunday. So were gonna give him so digestive canned food and some powder stuff.. and the vet told us to feed him the food about five hours from now. Oh yeah So the X-ray was done, we saw it and his intestine looks a little blowed up and he does seem to have an obstruction, vet said it's probably another piece of the cob. He's still playful and seems to have appetite but right now he's laying down and I just hear those sounds coming from his tummy We were told he could make it until Monday to check up again and surgery if things don't get better. I'm hopeful he could still puke up that piece or whatever is left there. The vet said theres a small chance he could still puke it up. WHAT DO YALL THINK? Would any of you wait to see what happens until Monday? Vet said a emergency clinic surgery would definitely be over $1k. The X-ray was just $110 not too bad I think and probably way cheaper than the emergency. I'll be posting the X-rays here soon well I'll see if I can access them with the code that they gave me.

| Aw Dave, Mylo May be a stupid question, I'll ask anyways, but the vet can't induce Mylo to puke? Or like, is it so far along now that puking wouldn't really help? If the vets opinion was that he could make it til Monday, I would say wait...I know from experience that the emergency vets can put you into debt really fast, and I'm not saying money should be your number one concern, because it's not, but I think if I was in your situation, and the vet told me waiting til Monday would be ok in all likelihood, I myself would *probably* wait. However, this is the one thing I havnt experienced with any of my huskies...yet...so my advice should be lowest on your list. Please keep us updated as you can. Sorry man |

| I really hope he can pull through until Monday it some miracle happening before that. And yeah the vet brought up injecting him to make him puke but then she mentioned the bad things that could happen if the shot fails to take effect on the blockage. He had barely puked (at 7am) he also pooped around that time too..before heading to the vet (at 8am). Me and my girlfriend are really bummed out especially since it's about to be his birthday sighhh then she's a little upset and doesn't understand why he would still be interested in eating anything like that and I tell her he's still young and a lot of the huskies from the forum here have also had weird stuff in their stomachs. I'm trying to stay hopeful, we fed him some canned food and he was interested and he's just been waking around a little playful then lays down. The tummy growls have stopped for now. And he vomited again at around 12:30 pm, it was just clear fluid, then finally fed him at 1pm as the vet said. |

| Keep doing as the vet prescribed, I know you will I'm assuming he found the cob inside your house? If so, something I learned A LONG TIME ago, haha, was to keep trash cans behind closed doors, like the kitchen one is under the sink, bathroom ones as well...if you're not doing that already, it's a suggestion from me to start, even if you have to keep smaller trash cans and take them out more often. Mine are not counter surfers, never with any of them (why, I do not know) but again, if the cob was on the counter, in the future put things like that directly into the trash when you bring your plate into the kitchen. I'm NOT saying you've been doing ANYTHING wrong, this is just advice from someone who has had huskies a very long time, with all kinds of different personalities, and what I've learned along the way. My one husky, Blitz, was always in the bathroom trash and taking all that kind of stuff, it's not good. And with him, even closed doors weren't enough, and the child proof locks I put on them he could open, it's all a learning process dude, and we have dogs that are scary smart! But yeah dude, just keep remembering that Mylo is like a child, and adjust the way you do things accordingly to keep him safe. My scariest experience, and pretty gross too if I hadn't caught it, was when I was a kid and our husky opened, and ate, a box of laxatives my mom kept in the bathroom drawer. He spent the night at the vet, haha. |

| Dave, I know you didn't give it to him, but it was just a tease, sorry if it was out of place at the time. Those x-rays look interesting, but I hope your vet could see more in them than I could. I see a lot of dense fecal<?> material well along in the digestive tract but that's where it starts to loose the water so it's normally denser (saying that like he sounds like he knows what he's talking about) Maybe someone else can comment, looking at the side x-ray, under the last vertebrate, just before the gut dumps into the colon it changes density - like the colon is empty and there's still a lot in the bowel that needs to move - is this what he's seeing as a possible blockage?? I don't know and I'm curious. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| We are very careful and do everything you mentioned Jim. That's why we are both shocked as to why this is happening..unless he found them somewhere outside around the house when we let him run around loose for a bit. I'm always making sure the counters are clear too but he isn't so bad with that a anymore and the table too. And he just pooped a little but right now a bit ago at 6:32pm.. a kind of spray blast then a little log then a little diarrhea at the end. We went on a walk and he seems to be himself, saw a bird on the ground and went bannanas, but it's when he's in the house laying down..he has this sad look. Maybe were just paranoid? I gave him some more canned food and he got right up when I was serving him so he still has appetite. The loud growling sounds from his tummy that he had in the morning haven't been back.
And woah crazy husky with a long laxative night..

| Here's a more accurate description of where the vet thinks the obstruction is. I should've done this in the first place. If I remember correctly, the vet said it's right there at the circle and that's why the rest of the intestine looks inflated after that point. |

| As long as stuff is going out one end and in the other, I think you're safe waiting the weekend. If that stops, then I would act quickly. A corn cob is organic material so hopefully at least some of it will digest.
Also, if memory serves me correctly, if the abdomen remains soft, his appetite continues and he's perky, that's good. Bowel sounds are good. A silent, rigid, distended abdomen, no appetite, fever, lethargy, then you are on the emergency zone. Diarrhea means at least liquid is passing the obstruction, if there is one. |

| Thanks @amymeme I was waiting for a reply like yours. I have been telling my gf the same as long as he's still interested in food and something is coming out of that butt then he's hanging in there good. It has happened two times in the past when he was a younger pup and I went with that same standard: a puppy that won't eat is in trouble..along with lethargy. I really want him to hang in there, but I'll get in debt with him if it's extremely necessary. I don't want my little Mylo to leave us because of some dumb cob. I don't even want to sleep tonight just to see his every movement while he sleeps. |

| @amymeme yeah he's really relaxed good right now, and yeah my greatest fear is a mat on his fur I focus a lot on his outer thighs not so much his inner cause it's a challenge to her under there along with his belly too, he won't let me on every brush session lol @aljones I didn't put attention to the genitalia until now haha And thanks to all who click on this thread and reply, in moments like these is when I love being on this forum the most. |

| I could never ever be a doctor. I look at those x-rays and all I see is...x-rays. Mylo looks pretty comfortable in that pic I hope he passes this thing and can enjoy his birthday. |

| The way the vet explained it made sense about the X-ray even though I still can't tell exactly what she meant about where she thought it was. And yeah I really want him to either pass it tomorrow or make it until Monday to get him to surgery or whatever the vet decides. Well, time to try and get some sleep, even though I just want to keep an eye on Mylo all night...I got a long busy day tomorrow as usual for Sundays. Mylo is sleeping in his usual position, on the floor right by the bed. I'm gonna offer him some food as soon as I awake in the morning to test his appetite. |

| Hey, so I'm a bit absent from the forum these days due to my new job, but I wanted to chime in. If he's not showing symptoms then it's probably moving through there, although it's really evident by those X-rays that things are a bit backed up. Shadow's looked way worse though. If you have any questions, you're more than welcome to PM me. Fair warning though, I can't have personal communications while I'm at work, so approx. 0800-1600 your time. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | Showed the x-rays to Wayne - CAVEAT: He is PEOPLE doc, not a vet. And, it depends a great deal on the positioning of the patient in the x-ray, but, he does not see a "frank obstruction" Does see a bit of stool backup. PS: He was loathe to express an opinion "I'm not a vet"..."can't put my hands on the patient"...but, Mylo sleeping by the bed passes his test of "good doggy parent." As long as you sleep lightly As for bowel noises - if they become high pitched sort of squeeky/squeely things then time to pay attention. |

| Mylo is such a good boy, he just woke me up right now (2:30am) so I got up and he was sitting by the door looking back at me like "come on let's goooo let's goo" I hurried up collar-leash Mylo was in a hurry we got on the grass and he started pooping! I was relieved, he poped a good amount and it was softly shaped too. Good boyy..offered him some pieces of kibble, at first he was a bit uninterested chewing softly but then by the third piece he was crunchin', maybe cause he was eating canned food yesterday and didn't see his usual food (kibble) all day. Now back in bed and he's back in his position too. Hey @blueeyedghost! I've been waiting for you to chime in, I know you've been through a lot and probably had some understanding of what's shown in the X-ray. Thanks for the reply! Thanks for showing it to him @amymeme I appreciate it! Any feedback on the X-ray is good for me. I'm sure that poop he just did was some of that build up cause it came out fast and he only pooped twice yesterday, he normally does at least 4 rounds in a day. And I try my best to be a good pet parent, I love this pup more than I ever thought I would. And we will be keeping our ears out for the stomach sounds if they come back. When he had them they sounded just like when us people have diarrhea or upset stomach you know those growly sounds. |

| This morning update: Starting at 6:50am, he pooped a little diarrhea. Then at around 7am he vomited a little white fluid For some reason he likes to get on the bed to puke, he did the same yesterday. He won't do it on the floor idk why. We are prepared though with big towels and leftover potty pads from when he was younger to catch his puke. He hadn't vomited since around that same time yesterday morning. Then at 8:40 I served him some canned food and he was staring at me while putting it on the bowl cut he wasn't going crazy, when I put it on the floor he didn't go for it when I said take it and then finally after about 3 minutes he started eating slowly and eventually finished the food. He's still a little playful, my uncle was around here and he was tugging with a toy and then went to his spot by living room to lay. No tummy sounds have been heard today. |

| Dave, Ami periodically goes through periods where his tummy makes noises and he doesn't eat. I have yet to find anything consistent about the source of this and usually attribute it to "dietary indiscretion" whether it be he drank water from someplace he should not have to eating something he found or maybe just too many treats the day before. The sound is usually a low rumbling, not the high pitched squeely/squeeky sounds Wayne described. Sort of like what my stomach sounded like before they diagnosed the gluten intolerance (I describe the sounds as like the '50's style submarine movie sounds just before the submarine was crushed to death Loud, low groans.) |

| The submarine refrence lol And a little update of Mylos current state: Well he's been chillin for most of the day and my gf has been at the helm and he finally pooped at around 6:50pm and it looked softly shaped then did a little diarrhea round shortly after, I'm just glad he pooped! And now I'm back home after a long church day (3 services) and I went to buy him a new toy on the way back and he's way more playful than yesterday at this time! Well he wasn't even playful at this time yesterday haha but yeah things are looking good as of now. Just a little more until it's 8am tomorrow to get him checked up at the vet again. Oh and also he showed more appetite today more than yesterday. |
