PostSubject: Hello from Bonny Scotland   Hello from Bonny Scotland EmptyMon Oct 12, 2015 7:36 pm

Hi everyone, I'm Lindsay and we rescued our pup Kallik a month ago after he was about to be sold on again, we're his 4th set of owners and he was only 15 weeks old! Long story and certainly not his fault. He's in his forever home now though, he's given our Irish Setter a new lease of life after we lost our lab and is keeping us all well entertained, I have quite a few holes in my garden already. He's a fantastic natured boy and thriving after not such a great start, he was very thin and had already developed food issues, he was being fed the cheapest adult dog kibble. A week with us and some care, these issues were rectified. He sees a human hand as good now not bad. He's a husky mix, his original owner said his mother was husky and his dad was a malamute, he saw both parents. He's an unusual colour, gorgeous fox red head, where his fur is darker its only on the tips, it cream/white underneath and I'm wondering if there's german shepherd in there too. Does anybody have any experience with this type of mix, any info would be gratefully received. The forum has been brilliant for information so far so thought I'd say hi and thank you all.

bye for now
Lindsay

Kalik is a really beautiful boy, I love his coloring. Congrats on your new addition. And welcome to the forum.

I've had huskies my entire life and one Malamute as well, but I've never had one mixed with both. My Malamute was my best bud, there really is something special about a Malamute. Malamutes do have larger ears, especially as puppies but they grow into them pretty well, is that where you are seeing GSD? My husky and my Malamute coexisted VERY well, so having both breeds mixed, should make for a pretty awesome dog Smile as far as personalities/traits between the two, I myself, noticed very little difference in personality. Maybe it's because they were raised together but I really can't pin point one thing that would be so drastically different between the two breeds, malamutes are more a one man dog (extremely loyal) whereas a husky just loves everybody, lol, but again, it's not a *drastic* difference. Both breeds love to run, to dig, to pull, to play, to be a part of the family/pack. Hmm, can't think of anything more, if you do have more questions though, feel free to ask Smile

Hi all, thanks for commenting, we love his looks but better still we just love him, he's fitted in brilliantly. Loving your owners too, beautiful. Cant wait to watch Kallik grow. I suppose I was thinking gsd due to his ears initially, but I would say he's grown into them a bit already, also possibly the colouring resembles a gsd too, certainly I've never seen a husky or mal with his colouring, we have friends who foster mals. His coat isnt as fluffy as ive seen on some husky/malamutes. He's had a rocky nutritional start due to the ignorance of his 3rd owners, thankfully this didn't continue long term but with improved food he's growing superbly, at the moment I would say he's built more husky than mal. Im defo his pack leader, but Im with him all day. I've learned already at how clever he is in finding an alternative route to where he wants to be, despite my best efforts, some more fencing required asap, although if he cant go over or through, I think he'll dig his way out!!

He is super cute. I also think he has something other than mal and husky in him.

Welcome to the forum! I love when we get people from outside the US contributing. Scotland is on the top of our vacation destination list when we can make it happen.

Rumflower, qinu is very similar, she's lovely. We know dad was kc registered mal and a show champ, mum, husky but no papers so think the gsd may come from her, it really doesnt matter to me would love him whatever, a gsd isn't a breed I would have chosen but mixed with husky/mal has made for a brilliant personality

That's a very good attitude to have about it. There are so many aspects of loki that aren't at all characteristic of huskies but that's just who he is. If they all were the same personality it would be quite boring I think (or maybe just very chaotic).
