Oh boy!  I have always wanted a Siberian Husky, so after reading up, watching videos, talking to owners, I took the plunge!  Zhukov is the newest member of my family, which includes Colby (Miniature Schnauzer), Lily and Amy (boring cats...lol), myself, my wife, and my 17 year old son.  Zhukov is 3 months old and WOW, what a handful.

We got off to a rough start.  We got him right before Christmas, and between the holiday rush, visiting relatives, and the general insanity around here, really did not start off the right way with his training.  So, here I am, a month late, frantic for help, searching the internet for help and I stumbled on this forum.  I have to say, this is the best place I have found so far.  Lots of good info, lots of good advice, lots of good people.  So far I have just been reading, searching, watching videos, but have learned a lot here.

So, what are my issues?  Well, Colby, our Schnauzer, was an absolute joy to train.  He never made a peep, picked up on house training like a champ, took to a leash well, and learned all of his commands on the very first try.  Ok, slight exaggeration, but you get the gist.  Zhukov on the other hand....  wow...  I swear to God, this dog pees every 38 seconds, poops every 45 seconds, put him any where near a crate and he cries like you are setting him on fire, and eats like he is an Ethiopian refugee.  (not so slight exaggeration)  Seriously, he is a good dog.  He is learning to go outside.  He is not vocal at all (unless he is in his crate), so he will go sit by the back door until someone sees him.  Still has accidents in the house, and I know that they are accidents because he does not do them in the same spot.  It's like a game for me, "Where did Zook pee in the 10 seconds he was out of my sight?".  I have to say though, I love this dog.  His attitude, his joy, his funny "bark".  Where Colby is more stoic/condescending/judgmental, Zhukov is bouncy and full of energy and full of life.

Anyway, thank you all for this great site, thanks in advance for the help, and thank God for Huskies!

(still trying to figure out the picture thing...  read the instructions, but its not working for me...  Try again later.)Hello from Long Island, NY! Zhukov12

Welcome to the forum. He's really cute. Very neat name too.

If you flip pictures over in windows explorer before uploading them to your hosting site they should turn out the correct way. That's how I always flip mine.

At roughly 12 weeks old he should be able to hold his bladder a couple hours, pushing toward 3 hours, by now. I wouldn't let him out of my sight so that he could have accidents. Some tether their dogs to them so that at any point in time they can correct if they go to squat. If he has an accident anyway you may want to rule out UTI. If you can't be watching him then I would crate him and face the crying with tough love. Giving him something to occupy his mind while in the crate such as a chew should help settle him and create a positive atmosphere with the crate. At his age I would contain him only to the room I was in ever if he wasn't in the crate.

I agree with Jenn, although, I had the same issue with my girl. She constantly had to go. Check for the UTI. I think with my Sofie, it was more like a game, she wanted to go out and play, so I swear she would only pee half way, haha. At about 4 months old, she mysteriously got it together, and hasn't had an accident since. She is now 5 months old. So literally she went from peeing every 20 minutes, to being able to hold it several hours. Like Jenn said though, if you can't pay attention crate him or tether him. Welcome to the forum, and he is a wonderful looking husky!

Both Jenn and Renee gave you excellent advice. I would only add that crate training, though it can be gut wrenching for the humans, especially if you have a drama queen, is one of the better things you č do for your pup.

Otherwise, all I have to say is... he's a super cutie...I love that mask!
