Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Hi we just got a puppy 3 days ago. He's called Zeus. And is 10 weeks old. My boyfriend has always wanted a husky, I'm reading up as much as I can all the time. However he will not go toilet outside the house. No matter how long I stay outside he will wait and wait til I get back inside. I'm learning as i go too and I'm finding this bit the hardest.

Beautiful puppy! You will find great advice in this forum. I have only been a husky mom for a short while so my advice might not be the best but treats for going potty outside have worked wonders for us! Getting him to associate the word potty or whichever word you choose to use with going outside helps too.

Haha sorry I know it sucks but it's a learning experience every time. No stress. As time goes on you'll learn the little cues he gives when he's about to potty. Most often it's a bit of sudden activity, whining, randomly wandering to an empty area, sniffing the ground, turning in circles, etc. When you see them you'll know to scoop him up and dart outside. Rule of thumb is they have to go out 15-30 minutes after they eat or drink and as soon as they wake up from a nap. Get a jar and fill it with rocks. Whenever he starts to potty inside shake it to distract him, then scoop him up and run outside. When he finishes up his business outside, praise him.

Good luck! You have a cutie on your hands!

I found with my dogs it helped a lot to take them for a walk rather than just letting them outside the door of the house. Walking encourages bowel movements, and when he successfully potties outside, give him lots of treats and praise!
