| I'm not sure if this is something that can really be answered but as Juneau is our first puppy I thought I'd ask..
I am working on potty training her and encouraged her when she barked at the door as I thought it was her way of telling me she had to go potty.
Issue is.. she now sits at the door (which has windows from floor to ceiling) and barks all the time. I take it she figured out if she does this she goes out. My question is.. is it possible to determine if she just wants to go out or if she has to go potty. If I am going about this all wrong PLEASE let me know. Again, my first pup. Thank you all and I appreciate the help you have given so far. Doug |

| If she's really young...you've a conundrum. Let her out every time on false alarms because she wants to play or risk a puddle.
Or. Set up a schedule - after eating, getting up in the AM, when she's playing etc., when she gets up from a nap... |

| As Amy said, for now go along with it. Once she is on a schedule and can hold her bladder long, and you are more familiar with her, you will start to see subtle nuances that will distinguish between "I need to pee!" and "Let me outside so I can come back in and want out again!" My two are more serious or calmer when they want out to pee. They are focused on holding their bladder and don't get nearly as excited at the door. When they are just being buttheads I get the bouncing and staring and looking from me to the door and wandering back and forth and complete utter excitement from them. My girl pesters me when she just wants out for the sake of going out. _________________ |

| My puppy did the same thing. he would whine at the door so I never knew if he needed to go or just wanted fresh air. I started taking him out after eating, playtime and napping. he caught on quickly and didn't do it again. Now he's 8 months and when he whines hard by the door I know he needs to go.. Keep taking her out when you think she has to go (i.e. after eating, play, napping) and she will catch on. |

Awesome.. that's what I am starting to do. Its hard because sometimes she will drink her water, take two steps, and go on the floor. I don't even have time to react. We'll get there haha. |
