Our husky is nearly 6 months now and the last few weeks has started going backwards being left on his own. Even when he's not in his crate I can't even leave the room to go sort things out around the house. He was getting better at being left then all of a sudden went like this. I'm hopefully getting a part time job soon and I'm lucky I know my neighbours who can't hear him. But the worst is not being able to get things done round the house. My boyfriend is thinking about getting an older rescue dog. No puppy this time, I'm guessing for the company. But I can hardly handle the one we do have because of how he can't be left alone. Is 2 better than one or will it not make a difference. Also meant to mention he won't even eat if someone's not sat in the room he just ignores his food and waits by the door til someone comes back in.

Zoe, welcome to the start of the teen years. There is a reason why most huskies end up rehomed around a year old one thing you can do is husky proof your home even more to keep him out of things. You can try to tether him to you to keep him with you around the house and out of trouble. More exercise may also help, how much does he get now? As for adding another dog, yes 2 i think are better then one BUT if you are having issues with the one those bad habits may be passed on to the new dog and you will have double the issues. If you are not getting another husky make sure the breed is compatible with a husky. Getting a 2nd dog also does not replace the need for walks and mental games like training to tire him out. As for the food he will eat when hungry, he is testing you right now, normal husky behavior _________________

It would be a husky. There's not much more we can do to our home and the thought of tethering him to me is just too much lol. I want him to be used to being by himself not attached to me. He gets walked every day. Sometimes half an hour and a few little walks. Sometimes just one big walk.

I would step up the walks. Half hour isn't very long. Takes mine a full hour each time to be worn out and they are older dogs. We are in the hour in the morning and hour in the evening range for exercise covering some miles each time. The tether, while might sound weird, is so you can correct him if he gets to nosing into things you don't want him into. Now is when you need to crack down on the house rules and really stick to your guns. As for getting another dog, I think it takes some pressure off if both dogs are pretty balanced and decently behaved. If the new dog has no training or minimal training it could also turn into double the trouble with Zeus already being a pain, so I would tread that ground lightly. _________________

We were taking him on long walks all the time but I read that you shouldn't be doing too much when they're young because their legs aren't developed properly. I was doing 3.5 miles a day sometimes more but then didn't want to over do it for him.

Oh yeah, missed the 6 months part. Thought he was closer to 9 for some reason. May lean more toward the mental stimulation and just cracking the whip on his training. _________________
