Charles, the normal response to this is to keep you pup under control (and nope, that wasn't intended to be insulting).
If he's not getting enough exercise and he's bored, look out, he'll get his exercise any way he can.  If he is getting a good amount of exercise and he's still chewing on things then I'd suggest that you have him on an in house leash and keep him tethered to you as you work this out.  Finally, if he's at home alone he needs to be crated for his safety (chewing on wires for example) and your peace of mind.

ETA: This is early for a pups 'teen age years' but if you try what I've suggested, it will get better. I have two dogs here who are never secured and don't have any interest in counter-surfing or chewing anything they aren't given. It does get better with age.

Is he crate trained? You may want to think about it if he is not. What about chew toys? Does he have things of his own he can chew on to keep him occupied? Sounds to me like he may have a little too much freedom as well. Exercise, like Al mentioned, is very important but it's also important to realize that some pups just can't be left alone with such freedom, at such a young age. Just as a parent can't leave their child alone in the house without expecting some amount of damage/danger/and possibly even accidents, puppies can't be left alone like that either. This isn't criticism, so please don't take it as that, I've come home to small disasters with a past husky and am only going by my experience with him to *try* to give you some advice.

My Husky has destroyed a couple of things also. I have noticed that he gets destructive only when he is bored and unsupervised, or when he does not get out to burn off his energy. He has ripped up two beds in his crate, but I attribute that to me sleeping in and not getting him out at "wake up time" which is 0700. Since I can't get him out on a walk every day, I have started taking him to a doggy day care, which is awesome for socialization and he comes home and passes right out.

I agree with everyone else Charles, I will add that up to 8 months of age they will be teething, and that may be another factor that is playing into his bad behavior. Make sure he has things he can chew, and gnaw on. Good luck, this to shall pass, once over a year old they become more manageable, and become a great companion.
