2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Kairo is a chewer of catastrophic proportions. Thankfully all my furniture is being spared, but no "indistructable" toy has survived more than three hours. I know, we've timed it.

I got Kairo a filled knuckle bone to give her something to chew on. However, after about 10 minutes of having it, she figured out how to bite chunks out of it and subsequently eat it like kibble.

I know the warnings and reasons behind pulling a bone that is small enough to swallow. How does that rule apply to biting into bones? I can't tell the size pieces she is biting off because she is keeping them in her mouth and chewing them up. I'm worried she might not get one small enough.

You might try some elk antlers or some real bones if you have a butcher around. But they need to be raw bones - I give raw beef bones (but not the marrow bones - they love the marrow but it usually ends up in diarrhea because of the fat load.) My boy particularly likes the neck bones and the bones left from porterhouse being made into strip steak. But...you have to watch her, if she is a gulper, may need a huge one she can't get her mouth around (my guys savor and gnaw their bones.)

Is she chewing the pieces she bites off or is she swallowing them whole? Swallowing hole not such a great idea.

Thank you! She does chew the pieces up. The problem is in that she bites straight down, instead of gnawing. I've been warned to watch her breaking her teeth as that is the way she is biting on them.

I live in a tourist trap and wouldn't know where to get "real" bones, so I'm stuck with places like Petsmart and Petco. I may try the antlers Smile
