My husky ( Tango ) is one year old. He is the most friendly, waggy amd sweet hearted dog Ive ever had. He is far away from aggressive towards anyone until now. He recently dug a hole ubder my fence and severly bit my neighbors little Yorkee. The Yorkee is in surgery as of now under my expense. My neighbors understood this was an accident is as now not going to press charges. I just want some advice of procedures I can take after this action. I have 2 other dogs, a chorkee and a minature australian shepherd. My husky is known to be a rough player when it comes to playing with other dogs but, he has never been too aggressive where he would bite or intentionally hurt the other dogs. a good way to describe this perfectly is that he thinks he weighs 15 pounds instead of 50. The yorkee had multiple bites ans has a really bad cut on neck. so it seems like it my husky meant to do some damage. please help so this doesnt happen again.

You now know your dog cannot be trusted with small dogs and probably cats and other small animals. First thing, I would not claim this on your homeowner's insurance or you most likely will be dropped and have difficulty finding another.

You are either going to have to bomb proof your containment area or take him to a trainer/canine behaviorist with experience in dog aggression (though I think this is more of a prey issue) or train yourself. But, it is a long involved process that requires that you know what you are doing or have someone who knows what they are doing guide you.

Does not mean your dog is a bad dog - just...complicated.

Thank you Amy. Really valid point with the prey thing. He has got a rat or two and a rabbit before. He might of mistaken by size of the Yorkee.

Also would a stake and a metal wire leash do good? I have a big backyard and I would like to put him on a leash where he can run around still under supervision.

Tom,
As far as stakes go, that might be one workable solution.  Let me suggest that you look at something that can't be wrapped up so that Tango's on a real short lead - and - ensure that there's a cap of some kind over the stake.

I really dislike these (I've used them) and for some reason the cable always seems to get caught in the 'loop' at the top - so they turn into a short lead quickly.  To add insult to injury my sibe (in Houston) just pulled them out of the ground - didn't seem to help a lot.

This is better, in my mind.  First the stake is longer (24") and there is a cap over the top of the stake - could be bigger but better than nothing.

My aversion to the "stakes" is that I was in at my vets one time when a fellow brought in his dog who had literally impaled himself on the stake.

My other comment, some dogs will do well with small animals who live with them - my 3 Huskies and 2 cats, for example - they know that they're a part of the family so they're not prey. Most of the time a Husky will recognize that even a small dog is just another dog. Some Huskies, though, will chase anything that runs from them and without having had time to introduce themselves all bets about dog-to-dog are off - that's what I think occurred in your case.

I like the overhead trolley for tethering:

There are kits you can buy or instructions on the web for building your own. My boy has a 100 ft trolley between an oak tree and a pine tree with a doghouse under the pine tree. Me neighbor has a trolley that runs, oh maybe 150-200 from the corner of their house to a tree at the edge of the woods. And access to the crawl space beneath the house and up on the deck as well.
