Hello! My name is Brianna. I have been lurking around this forum for months, laughing at, and preparing myself for Husky antics.

My boyfriend and I brought home an adorable little munchkin August 11, 2017. Her name is Bailey. I contacted local Husky Breeders and spoke to them about the breed, and I spoke with many trainers about their "unique" personalities and the challenges that come with training them before we even got her.

Hello everyone! Bailey12

Mom is a Siberian Husky and dad is German Shepherd. Dad is a registered show/breeder. His owners wanted something a little different to break up their hoard of GSD's, so they bred him to a friend's Husky. Dad has obviously been hip and eye tested, being in a breeding program, and they got mom scored before agreeing to breed her.

There was 7 in the litter, mostly Shepherd looking. We were torn between two females but Bailey tested better for temperament.

I wasn't sure what her personality was going to end up being... but at 14 weeks, she is very much a Husky puppy... Razz She is a wild, crazy back talker. I love it.

She is currently enrolled in a Puppy Class, then she will be moving forward into their Teen Class. From there, we will see where she stands for entering the prep courses for CGC. If she's not ready yet, she'll be placed into the Advanced Classes. We are planning on enrolling her in a Nosework class to see how she does. I would really love to get involved in Barn Hunts. Agility is another goal, at least just getting her comfortable with the equipment.

She is definitely on the GSD side of the size spectrum. She is 27 pounds at 14 weeks. She's a moose.

Welcome to the forum. I've not met many show breeders who purposefully breed mixes because they are bored. That is an ethical no-no when variety is easy enough to be had by going down to the local shelter. Interesting start to this pup's existence. She's very cute. You will have your hands full. GSDs and Huskies are very different on many levels so she's sure to keep you on your toes as you see her develop and find her stride. We have a member who barn hunts her husky. If you search barn hunt I believe her thread will come up and you can see how hers has done with it. We also have a member who does lure coursing. There's a lot out there to try.

Twister, I do appreciate your concern, and I also acknowledge the way that it sounds and the fact that it isn't typical acceptable; however I did make a point to spend time with the breeder, as well as his dogs, and made sure that I personally was comfortable with where my money was going. It is a good family who runs a farm; they have healthy, well socialized, WORKING dogs who are well taken care of and have good pedigrees.

He wanted a dog with a common bloodline to his dogs, so he used his favorite GSD. That is his prerogative, and honestly not for me to judge ethically. All the puppies were sold with a strict pet only contract and cannot be bred. All these "purebred" dogs originated from humans messing with genetics and creating new breeds and inbreeding them to solidify traits.

Back before all of this was so proper and exclusive, those breeders were no better, IMO.

Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome to the forum, and I agree with Jen, reputable breeders are not going to do a designer breeding program, regardless your pup is adorable. I have a husky x gsd (or assume she is) and a pure gsd. Size, hmmmmm, my husky mix is way bigger, always was bigger compared to my gsd. Huskies are considered medium breeds and gsds are considered large medium breeds, their size is not much larger when looking at breed standards for both breeds. It is fantastic that you are doing puppy classes, paramount for this type of mix, because they will have the selective hearing and energy of a husky along with the energy and bidibility of the gsd. Both breeds are considered high energy. I would recommend little to no excessive work outs, keep the pup lean and feed a large breed puppy food, altho the hips were tested for the parents it still is not 100% guaranteed you will not have issues with HD. Try and prevent puppy from jumping, pulling, etc until after 1 year of age. Sadly HD and arthritis is a huge concern for gsds and a mix of gsds. Beautiful pup. Smile

Again, thank you for your input. Let's just agree to disagree.

Bailey's dad is 75 lbs. Mom is 55lbs. I grew up with GSDs; they've all been considerably larger than any Sibe I've ever met.

I assure you, I did plenty of research before attaining her, and am well aware that there is never a guarantee that a dog will not develop dysplasia or any other health issue, for that matter. She receives Nupro Silver in her food daily to help heal any damage that she does to her joints and hopefully prevent any future issues - at least early onset.

She is on large breed puppy food for the lower calcium and phosphorus.

We are trying to keep her from jumping, but she loves it and she doesn't care that we care. Talk about selective hearing!

She is a beauty! The ears look very GSD. It'll be interesting to see which breed she resembles most when she's an adult. Smile

She is beautiful! And my two favorite breeds! When we first got Suka my dad tried to talk us into breeding her with his gorgeous GSD. I'm excited to watch your baby grow up and see what she looks like as an adult. Congrats!!

Welcome Aboard. I have always been the casual owner of dogs and have never really put any thought into the ethical and unethical. However when i stated looking into getting a Husky I quickly learned that with certain types of dogs, breeding is just a sticky topic as is politics.
I happy for you and Brianna and it sounds like you have a lot planned for her. Right now, I just want to get Thor and the kids to get along when he gets home. Best wishes with the training classes and other plans. Keep us posted.

Awww Brianna is adorable! Very interesting color eyes. Kota just met a pup who is also Husky and GSD about the same age. I can't wait to see how she will look once she gets older.
